ROM Manager has been pulled. The current version is 2.2+ only. Is there a way to flash the recovery image on the CDMA Hero (S-ON) without ROM Manager?

Should work fine on XP. There is always the chance of messing up your phone but per Wug, there is a way to restore even if you do mess something up:

Then whenever you need to go back to square one just use the "Flash stock + Unroot" and "OEM lock" features.Remember that this option can also be used if you completely brick. This should bring you back to a fully locked stock factory state.

For anyone getting the screen with the triangle and exclamation point or hanging splash/intro screens:

Press home+power. Restart your phone.
Open ROM Manager. Click the top option to flash it again. Confirm your phone model.
Then click "Reboot into Recovery"
Recovery should come right up so you can follow these steps.
Every time you reboot your phone, ROM Manager has to be flashed again before loading your new ROM.

Hope this helps!
