Reportedly, the settlement requests the two vendors, Apple Story and Fun Zone, to relinquish all counterfeit products. The defendants will have exactly five days to hand over any merchandise that has the Apple logo or name on it, including all marketing materials associated with the fake products.

As part of Apple’s raging crusade against counterfeiters, Apple Story and Fun Zone would ultimately be banned from manufacturing or distributing any unauthorized devices or accessories indefinently. Additionally, Apple Story would have to change their name as Apple contends the name is simply too close to its own patented “Apple Store”.

The settlement was filed in a Brooklyn District Court and is currently awaiting approval of US District Judge Kiyo Matsumoto.

These tips all assume that you have followed our 1 Click Rooting procedure and our How To Load a Custom ROM procedure (including partitioning the card with 3 partitions as in the instructions). If you have not done these things, do them then come back here once Hero is running on your device.

Tips:

I. Make sure you have 3 partitions on your memory card!
I know for most this is a given, but I have to reiterate it as some people skip this step and then complain as to why it takes 30 seconds to get back to the home screen when using a Hero ROM.
So do this first THEN load a Hero ROM. Instructions to do so are in the How To Load a Custom ROM sections for whatever phone you are using.

II. Convert Ext2 to Ext3.
This can be done easily if you have used our procedures and have the Amon RA recovery image.

1. Simply turn off the phone and then turn it back on into recovery mode by holding down Home and Power.
2. On the recovery screen, click on the option to convert Ext2 to Ext3.
3. Once it is done converting, select reboot.
Optional, but recommended -
4. Put the Hero ROM .zip file on the memory card, put it into the phone.
5. Turn the phone on into recovery mode by holding down Home and Power.
6. On the recovery screen, select Wipe Data. Then Select Apply update choose zip, and select the Hero ROM and apply it again now that Ext2 is Ext3.
7. Once it is done, select reboot. Then go through the normal setup process to get back to the home screen.

III. Move cache to SD card.
This can be done easily if you have used our procedures and have the Amon RA recovery image.

1. After you are at the home screen (you went through the initial setup process on the phone), simply turn off the phone and then turn it back on into recovery mode by holding down Home and Power.
2. On the recovery screen,  select Move Dalvik Cache to SD.
3. Once it is done, select reboot.

IV. Download Advanced Task Killer (Free) from the Android Market.
1. Goto the Market and search for Advanced Task Killer.
2. Download the free version.
3. Once it is installed, open it and hold down on TouchFlo (if it has shown up, newer versions of this program might automatically ignore it) and select Add to Ignore list. We want TouchFlo to stay running at all times.
4. Once TouchFlo is no longer on the list, then select Settings and turn off the Notification (up to you but it ignores the crap out of me).
5. Then go back and click Kill selected Apps (it will automatically close the Task Killer program, this is fine.
6. Now, whenever you feel the phone slowing down after using it, just click this program and click Kill selected tasks to get it in shape.

CLARIFICATION! – The ROM here is ONLY FOR THE REAL HTC HERO. The idea is that though now that this is out in the open, the developers of the G1, Magic, and MyTouch Hero ROMs will put it into their updates. Check with the developers that currently make Hero ROMs for you phone if that have incorporated this update into their ROMs yet, again do NOT download this ROM and try to put it on any phone BESIDES the REAL HTC HERO.

For all HTC Hero owners out there, help is on the way. And to clarify for those that have rooted their Hero or are thinking about it, this update will have to be downloaded from HTC’s site so it will not be OTA and therefore you will have no trouble updating to it even if you have a rooted Hero when you do. (Their updates erase everything much in the same way we unroot other Android devices with an official .nbh file, these updates will most likely do the same). The only thing is you will lose root access (of course), but I’m sure shortly after the update is released someone will release a new rooted ROM for it.

For all you Sprint users waiting to get your hands on the Hero (in October), this means your Hero will probably already have the update installed and be that much sexier when you go get it.

For all the people who have a G1, MyTouch 3G, or a Magic with a Hero ROM, this is good news for you, too When the devs get their hands on this new update, you can bet they will use it as the basis for their new ROMs and that can only mean a boost in speed for the Hero ROM you are currently happy with/complaining about…

Before you begin make sure you have done our How To Root Your HTC Magic in One Click! procedure.

After you have successfully done that, you can do this procedure.

I. Partition Your Memory Card for Apps2SD or Hero

1. Get into recovery mode by holding down Home and Power to turn on the phone (if you are not already there).

2. Click on Wipe Data. Once that is done, click on Format Fat32+Ext2+LinuxSwap and wait for it to format.

3. Once it is done, take out the battery and put it back in. Turn on the phone and goto the next step.

II. Load a Custom ROM (including Hero)

1. Download a ROM from our Magic ROMs, MyTouch 3.5mm/Fender ROMs, or MyTouch 3G ROMs section (depending on your phone) to your computer.

2. Plug in your phone and pull down the Notification bar when the SD notification pops up.

3. Click on the notification and select Mount.

4. Once the SD card is on your computer screen, copy the ROM from your computer to your SD card (make sure NOT to put it in any folders on the SD card, just on the SD card by itself).

5. Once it is done copying, rename it on your SD card to update (in windows it should just need to be renamed update and you should still see the Zip folder icon to the left of the file to indicate that it is still update.zip).

6. Unplug your phone and turn it off.

7. Turn the phone on by holding down Home and Power till you get to the custom recovery screen.

8. Select Wipe from the menu, then select Apply Update.zip

9. Once it is done, select Reboot and you are all set!

*IF YOU WANT TO SWITCH TO A DIFFERENT ROM AFTER THIS, just do section II again with the different ROM and that’s it! Easy!

Reported Issues

Issue: Internet and MMS do not work…

Solution: Goto Settings, Wireless controls, Mobile network settings, Access point names, then click Menu and click New APN. Then put in your Service Provider’s APN settings.

Issue: Stuck at a logo screen or phone won’t boot up…

Solution: Boot the phone back into recovery mode (home and power) and then wipe and apply the update.zip again.
If that still doesn’t work then boot into recovery (home and power) then format SD Fat32+ext2+swap and take out the memory card once it is done, put it into your computer and load the rom onto it again. Put the sd card back into the phone, wipe and apply update.zip.

Issue: Screen goes fuzzy on a custom ROM on the Magic…

Solution: Noone knows why this happens (we have tried a lot of different scenarios). It just seems that it happens to some phones and not to others (might be a kernel issue). So until someone figures out the issue, then do Section IV again and try to load a different ROM. (*If Qtek Hero gives you fuzzy issue then use JACHeroski 1.5, located in our Downloads section on this site, do NOT use Heroski 1.6 it has same issue as Qtek. And visa versa).

II. How to Check Your Motherboard Version

1. Turn off your phone
2. Turn the phone on by either holding down the volume down button and power button at the same time OR by holding down the back button and power button at the same time.
3. When the screen comes up, it should say somewhere on the first line either 32A or 32B. THAT is your motherboard version. Remember it…
4. Turn off and on the phone.
5. Goto Settings > Applications  > and make sure Unknown sources is checked ON.

III. Root the Magic

1. Download this APK and the appropriate recovery image for your motherboard (32A or 32B) and save it to your computer:

2. Once they are saved to your computer, copy them both to your SD card (do NOT put them inside any folders on the SD card, just put them on the SD card itself).

3. Unplug the phone from the computer once they are downloaded to the SD card.

4. Goto the Market and download Linda File Manager or any file manager program if you do not already have one.

5. Open the file manager and goto SDCard and then find the FlashRec apk file and click it. If asked tell it to use Package Installer to open it. It should automatically install the apk.

6. Open the FlashRec program and click on Backup Recovery Image and wait for it to finish.

7 (FOR 32A ONLY) Once done, click on the empty text box in the FlashRec program and type:

/sdcard/recovery-RAv1.6.2H.img

7 (FOR 32B ONLY) Once done, click on the empty text box in the FlashRec program and type:

/sdcard/recovery-RAv1.6.2G.img

8. Then click on the Flash Custom RecoveryImage button and wait for it to finish.

9. Turn off the phone and turn it on into Recovery mode by holding down Home and Power to turn it on (keep holding until the recovery screen comes up has a bunch of text on a black background). So long as that screen comes up, you have done it correctly and can now go on to the How to Load a ROM video for your appropriate device!

10. To get Root access you MUST go to the next video mentioned above and load a custom ROM.

Reported Issues

Issue: I get Invalid Recovery Image when using the FlashRec program.

Solution: Make sure that the spell correction and auto completion are OFF in the Text Settings (Settings > Locale and Text > Touch Input > Text Input then turn off Prediction, spell correction, and word completion) of your phone. If not then it may put in spaces where they do not belong. (I had it put a space after .img and couldn’t see it so couldn’t figure out why it kept saying invalid recovery image, like you guys).

Other than that, just make sure it is on the root of the SD card (not in any folder) and that you are typing in the recovery name and filepath correctly.

Then and it should show Flash Recovery Image.

Issue: When I download the FlashRec.apk it shows up as a .zip not an apk.

Solution: No problem. Do NOT extract it, just simply replace the .zip with .apk and then proceed with the procedure.

Issue: I get backup failed or flash failed when I try to use the FlashRec progam.

Solution: This is most likely because you already have a custom recovery image, please use one of the unrooting procedures to get back to the original recovery image and THEN you can use this procedure.
Also, instead of doing that, if you have root access, you can just put the recovery image on your SD card then go into Terminal (download it from the Market if you don’t already have it) and type:

flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-dream-v1.2.3.img

2. Plug in your phone and pull down the Notification bar when the SD notification pops up.

3. Click on the notification and select Mount.

4. Once the SD card is on your computer screen, copy the ROM from your computer to your SD card (make sure NOT to put it in any folders on the SD card, just on the SD card by itself).

5. Once it is done copying, rename it on your SD card to update (in windows it should just need to be renamed update and you should still see the Zip folder icon to the left of the file to indicate that it is still update.zip).

6. Unplug your phone and turn it off.

7. Turn the phone on by holding down Home and Power till you get to the custom recovery screen.

8. Select Wipe from the menu, then select Apply Update.zip

9. Once it is done, select Reboot and you are all set!

Reported Issue:

Issue: I can’t find Format Fat32+Ext2+LinuxSwap.

Solution: This means you are using Amon Ras latest recovery image, he has put this option under Partition > Partition SD > then it asks you what values you want for the different partitions. Here are the standard values, but feel free to change them according to what the ROM you wish to use recommends.

LinuxSwap – 32MBs
Ext2 – 512Mbs
Fat32 – Remainder

HOW TO ROOT THE HTC HERO (ANDROOT METHOD)

I. Read Before You Begin

1. Try the procedure as is first, then if you get a backup failed response from flash rec come back to this section for what you need to do BEFORE using the rest of the procedure.

Orange UK Users - Please downgrade your ROM version to 2.73.61.5 using this HTC Program. Then you can follow the rest of this procedure as it is written. Good luck!

Orange Spain Users – Just continue with the procedure as written, should work fine for you

Unbranded European Users - Please downgrade your ROM version to 1.76.405.1 using this HTC Program. Then you can follow the rest of this procedure as it is written. Good luck!

Sprint Users – Please downgrade your ROM version to 1.29.651.1 using this HTC Program. Then you can follow the rest of this procedure as it is written. Good luck!

T-Mobile UK Users – Please downgrade your ROM version to 1.76.110.6 using this HTC Program (link is gone, if anyone knows where to find the 1.76.110.6 RUU please post a link). Then you can follow the rest of this procedure as it is written. Good luck!

If None of The Above Worked For You – You may need to do things the hard way (goldcard method), do this procedure and then come back and follow the rest of this procedure.

II. Let’s Get Started

1. On your phone, goto Settings, Applications, and make sure Unknown source is checked ON.

2. On your phone, goto Settings, SD card and phone storage, and click Unmount SD card.

3. Then click Format SD card (it should automatically remount after this).

4. Plug the phone into the compuer via USB, then pull down the notification bar and click on the SD card notification. Then click mount.

5. Download this APK and recovery image and save it to your computer:

6. IMPORTANT UPDATE: Do NOT follow the video instructions from this point on (use them as a visual aid only!) We have replaced the Cyanogen Recovery Image with the Amon Ra one  so when it says anything about the Cyanogen Recovery Image, just ignore that and put the Amon Ra one in it’s place. This is VERY IMPORTANT when typing into the FlashRec program. You will NOT be typing what is written in the video, type what is written here in this procedure instead!

7. Save both the recovery-RA-heroc-v1.5.2 and the FlashRec.apk to your computer, then copy them both to your SD card (do NOT put them inside any folders on the SD card, just put them on the SD card itself).

8. Unplug the phone from the computer once they are downloaded to the SD card.

9. Goto the Market and download Linda File Manager or any file manager program if you do not already have one.

10. Open the file manager and goto SDCard and then find the FlashRec apk file and click it. If asked tell it to use Package Installer to open it. It should automatically install the apk.

13. Turn off the phone and turn it on into Recovery mode by holding down Home and Power to turn it on (keep holding until the recovery screen comes up has a bunch of text on a black background). So long as that screen comes up, you have done it correctly and can now go on to the How to Load a ROM video for your appropriate device!

14. To get Root access you MUST go to the next video mentioned above and load a custom ROM.

Reported Issues

Issue: It says Backup Failed/Flash Failed when trying to use the FlashRec program to flash the custom recovery image.

Solution: Try the older version of FlashRec (version 1.1.2).

(use this one if your MyTouch has a 3.5mm headphone jack at the top).

I. Load a Custom Radio (For G1 – Mandatory, For MyTouch – Skip) -

1. Check what Radio you have first!!! Turn the phone off and then back on by holding down Back and Power. At the top you should see your radio version at the top of the screen. If it says 2.22.19.26I then SKIP section this section and procedure to section II. (You do NOT want to load the same radio twice, it can cause issues).

2. Download the custom Radio for your device:

T-Mobile G1 - Here
MyTouch 3G - Unneccessary, skip this section and proceed to Section III.

3. Plug in your phone and mount the SD card (pull down on the notification bar and select the SD card notification then click Mount in the pop up window).

4. After the SD card shows up on the computer, put the radio zip file on to the memory card (NOT in any subfolders on the memory card, just on the memory card itself) and then rename the file to update.zip (most computers, you do not type the .zip part, it automatically puts it in for you so just as long as the file is called update and there is a Zip folder icon to the left of it still, you are fine. Leave it like that).

5. Once it is done transferring to the memory card and you have renamed it, unplug the phone from the computer.

6. Turn off the phone and then turn it back on by holding down the Home and Power button to get to recovery mode (keep holding it until the recovery screen with the writing and black background come up).

7. Once the recovery screen is up, click on Wipe Data. Once that is done, click on Apply Update.zip and wait for it to finish.

8. Once it is done, click Reboot Device (if it doesn’t reboot and shuts off instead, hit the power button as if to turn it on. WE NEED IT TO REBOOT AS IT LOADS SOMETHINGS DURING START UP).

9. Once the device has finished starting to boot up and gets to the G1 or MyTouch logo (make sure that it has rebooted once, but not all the way to the homescreen) then take out the battery and the memory card.

10. Put the memory card into the SD adapter it came with and then put that into the computer so we can load files onto it and goto the next section…

II. Load a Custom SPL (For G1 – Mandatory, For MyTouch – Skip) -

1. Check what SPL you have first. Turn the phone off and then back on by holding down Back and Power. At the top you should see your SPL version at the top of the screen next to the word HBOOT. If it says 1.33.2005, then SKIP section this section and procedure to section III. (You do NOT want to load the same SPL twice, it can cause issues).

2. Download the custom SPL for your device:

T-Mobile G1 – Here
MyTouch 3G –  Unneccessary, skip this section and proceed to Section III.

3. Plug in your phone and mount the SD card (pull down on the notification bar and select the SD card notification then click Mount in the pop up window).

4. After the SD card shows up on the computer, put the SPL zip file on to the memory card (NOT in any subfolders on the memory card, just on the memory card itself) and then rename the file to update.zip (most computers, you do not type the .zip part, it automatically puts it in for you so just as long as the file is called update and there is a Zip folder icon to the left of it still, you are fine. Leave it like that).

5. Once it is done transferring to the memory card and you have renamed it, unplug the phone from the computer.

6. Turn off the phone and then turn it back on by holding down the Home and Power button to get to recovery mode (keep holding it until the recovery screen with the writing and black background come up).

7. Once the recovery screen is up, click on Wipe Data. Once that is done, click on Apply Update.zip and wait for it to finish.

8. Once it is done, click Reboot Device (if it doesn’t reboot and shuts off and shows a black screen instead, hit the power button as if to turn it on. WE NEED IT TO REBOOT AS IT LOADS SOMETHINGS DURING START UP).

9. Once the device has finished starting to boot up and gets to the G1 or MyTouch logo (make sure that it has rebooted once, but not all the way to the homescreen. Also it may reboot to the recovery image, that is fine). Take out the battery and put it back in if it tried to goto the homescreen but got stuck at the logo.

10. Goto the next section…

III. Parition Your Memory Card for Apps2SD or Hero

1. Get into recovery mode by holding down Home and Power to turn on the phone (if you are not already there).

2. Click on Wipe Data. Once that is done, click on Format Fat32+Ext2+LinuxSwap and wait for it to format.

3. Once it is done, take out the battery and memory card and put the memory card into the SD adapter it came with and then put that into the computer so we can load files onto it and goto the next section…

IV. Load a Custom ROM (including Hero)

1. Download any custom ROM for your device (G1 ROMs for the G1, and 32B Magic ROMs for the myTouch 3G) from either our Android Downloads > ROMs Section or from Forum.XDA-Developers.com

2. Plug in your phone and mount the SD card (pull down on the notification bar and select the SD card notification then click Mount in the pop up window).

3. After the SD card shows up on the computer, put the ROM zip file on to the memory card (NOT in any subfolders on the memory card, just on the memory card itself) and then rename the file to update.zip (most computers, you do not type the .zip part, it automatically puts it in for you so just as long as the file is called update and there is a Zip folder icon to the left of it still, you are fine. Leave it like that).

4. Once it is done transferring to the memory card and you have renamed it, unplug the phone from the computer.

5. Turn off the phone and then turn it back on by holding down the Home and Power button to get to recovery mode (keep holding it until the recovery screen with the writing and black background come up).

6. Once the recovery screen is up, click on Wipe Data. Once that is done, click on Apply Update.zip and wait for it to finish.

7. Once it is done, click Reboot Device.

8. DONE! ENJOY!

*IF YOU WANT TO SWITCH TO A DIFFERENT ROM AFTER THIS, then do NOT do sections I – III, ONLY do section IV and that’s it! Easy!

Issue: I get the ! screen when I hold Home and Power instead of the recovery screen with the writing…

Solution: Go back and redo the 1 click rooting procedure. Make sure you flash the custom Amon Ra recovery image we give you to download and NOT the cyanogen image. Also make sure it says Flashed Successfully or whatever before turning off the phone.
Once it does, then turn off the phone and turn it back on holding down Home and Power. You should eventually see the custom recovery screen, if you don’t and you get the ! screen, then it didn’t work start over.

If you are using a G1, then once you get the recovery screen, leave it on the recovery screen.
Take out the memory card and put it into your computer, do Section II and load the SPL onto the memory card and rename it to update.zip.
Then put the memory card back in and while still on the recovery image, hit Wipe then hit Apply Update.zip and wait for it to finish. Once done, reboot the phone and wait until it goes back to the recovery image or gets stuck on the logo.
Once that happens take out the memory card, put it into the computer and put a ROM on it and rename it to update.zip like before. Put it back into the phone and on the recovery screen hit Wipe then Apply Update.zip. Once it is done, reboot and let it boot back to the home screen. All done!

Issue: Stuck at a logo screen or phone won’t boot up…

Solution: Boot the phone back into recovery mode (home and power) and then wipe and apply the update.zip again.
If that still doesn’t work then boot into recovery (home and power) then format SD Fat32+ext2+swap and take out the memory card once it is done, put it into your computer and load the rom onto it again. Put the sd card back into the phone, wipe and apply update.zip.

6. Once they are saved to your computer, copy them both to your SD card (do NOT put them inside any folders on the SD card, just put them on the SD card itself).

7. Unplug the phone from the computer once they are downloaded to the SD card.

8. Goto the Market and download Linda File Manager or any file manager program if you do not already have one.

9. Open the file manager and goto SDCard and then find the FlashRec apk file and click it. If asked tell it to use Package Installer to open it. It should automatically install the apk.

10. Open the FlashRec program and click on Backup Recovery Image and wait for it to finish.

11. Once done, click on the empty text box in the FlashRec program and type:

/sdcard/recovery-RA-dream-v1.2.3.img

Then click on the Flash Custom RecoveryImage button and wait for it to finish.

12. Turn off the phone and turn it on into Recovery mode by holding down Home and Power to turn it on (keep holding until the recovery screen comes up has a bunch of text on a black background). So long as that screen comes up, you have done it correctly and can now go on to the How to Load a ROM video for your appropriate device!

13. To get Root access you MUST go to the next video mentioned above and load a custom ROM.

Reported Issues

Issue: G1′s are erasing the recovery image before we can load a Radio, SPL, or ROM.

Solution: Once you do step 12 and boot into recovery mode, go straight to the next video, leave the phone in recovery mode, and do Section II to load the SPL. If you turn the phone off and on before then you will have to redo these steps.

Issue: I get Invalid Recovery Image or Flash Recovery doesn’t show up, it stays greyed out!

Solution: Make sure that the spell correction and auto completion are OFF in the Text Settings (Settings > Locale and Text > Touch Input > Text Input then turn off Prediction, spell correction, and word completion) of your phone. If not then it may put in spaces where they do not belong. (I had it put a space after .img and couldn’t see it so couldn’t figure out why it kept saying invalid recovery image, like you guys).

Other than that, just make sure it is on the root of the SD card (not in any folder) and that you are typing in:

/sdcard/recovery-RA-dream-v1.2.3.img

and it should show Flash Recovery

Issue: When I download the FlashRec.apk it shows up as a .zip not an apk.

Solution: No problem. Do NOT extract it, just simply replace the .zip with .apk and then proceed with the procedure.

Issue: I get backup failed or flash failed when I try to use the FlashRec progam.

Solution: This is most likely because you already have a custom recovery image (OR HAVE DONUT), please use one of the unrooting procedures to get back to the original recovery image and THEN you can use this procedure.

PLEASE NOTE! IF YOU HAVE A MyTouch 1.2 / Fender, STOP!
WE ARE DOING A NEW PROCEDURE JUST FOR YOU, HERE. USE THAT PROCEDURE INSTEAD OF THE ONE BELOW!

Before Beginning:

Have a SPARE memory card (2GB is perfect and relatively cheap) to use for the Goldcard procedure, do NOT use your normal everyday card as it will ONLY be a goldcard after we are done.

I. Setup ADB and Create a Goldcard

1. Just follow our new How To Create a Goldcard procedure and once you have finished it enitrely and have a working goldcard, come back to finish this procedure.

III. Root the MyTouch using the Goldcard

1. Download the Sappimg.zip file for your phone:

SappIMG.zip (for old MyTouch and all Magics)

Save the file to your computer, then save it to your goldcard (Do NOT rename it to anything, leave it as SappIMG.zip). Then take out your Goldcard from the computer.

2.. Take your original memory card (NOT YOUR GOLDCARD) and save whatever is on it to your computer as a backup before beginning.

3.Put the memory card into your phone (AGAIN NOT THE GOLDCARD).

4. With the memory card in your phone, click on Settings, SD and Phone storage, then click Unmount SD card. Once it unmounts, click Format SD card.

5. Plug the phone into the computer and mount the SD card so we can save a file to it.

6. Download the 1.33.2005 HBoot and save it to your newly formatted memory card, and then rename it to update.zip (windows sometimes just needs you to rename it update and if you still see the zip folder symbol next to the file that means that it is still update.zip even though it only shows update).

7. Turn off your phone once the update.zip file is on the memory card.

8. Take out the memory card from the phone and put in the Goldcard (all while the phone is still off).

9. Turn on the phone by hold down the Power and Volume Down button. When the screen comes to the rainbow (or skating android screen), it should automatically pick up the SappIMG.zip file and ask you to update. Go ahead and update (DO NOT INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS).

10. Once the flashing is COMPLETE. Then turn off the phone.

11. While the phone is off, take out the Goldcard and put in the regular SD card (the one with the update.zip file on it).

12. Turn on the phone while holding Back and Power until the Fastboot screen comes up.

13. Download Amon Ra’s Recovery Image and save it to the AndroidSDK\Tools folder on your computer.

14. Plug the phone into the computer (while still in fastboot mode).

15. Goto the Start menu type cmd into the run section of the start menu and hit enter to bring up the Command Prompt.

16. Type the following into the command dos prompt on the computer (the black screen with white letters that just opened) while the phone is connected through USB, hitting enter at the end of the line:
cd\
cd androidsdk\tools\
fastboot devices

17. You should see a serial number pop up and the word fastboot to the right of it. This means that your USB drivers are all set up correctly and you can continue. If you do NOT see this, then you need to start over or Google for how to set up the USB drivers correctly (this will help).

18. If it worked, type the following into the command prompt (with hitting enter at the end of the line):

fastboot boot recovery-RAv1.2.0H.img *the 0 in 1.2.0H is a Zero not an Oh

19. Once the phone boots into the recovery mode, then click on Apply Update.zip (if you get Can’t Mount E: etc. then just click Wipe Data on the recovery screen then hit Apply Update.zip again).

20. Once it is finished applying the update, hit home and back to reboot the phone. It should boot up into recovery mode OR get stuck at the HTC Magic screen. Once it does either of those, then take out the battery and put it back in.

21. Turn on the phone by holding Back and Power to get into Fastboot mode again. At the top it should read 1.33.2005. If so, turn off the phone. If not retry this section.

22. Take out the SD card (while the phone is off) and put it into your computer via the cardreader it came with.

23. Open the memory card on the computer and delete the update.zip file from the memory card.

24. Download Amon Ra’s 32A based image and save it to the memory card, rename it to update.zip

25. Put the SD card back into your phone and turn the phone on by holding down Back and Power. Once it boots up into fastboot mode, plug the phone into the computer via Usb (the command prompt should still be open on your computer).

26. Type the following into the command prompt (with hitting enter at the end of the line):

fastboot boot recovery-RAv1.2.0H.img *the 0 in 1.2.0H is a Zero not an Oh

27. Once the phone boots up into recovery mode, click the Apply Update.zip (if you get Can’t Mount E: etc. then just click Wipe Data on the recovery screen then hit Apply Update.zip again).

28. Once the update is complete click home and back to reboot.

29. ALL DONE YOU NOW HAVE ROOT! You can use the phone as is now with Root access. If you want to load a new ROM (like a Hero ROM for instance) then go to the next step.

IV How to Put the MyTouch Splash Screen instead of the Vodafone One

1. Download the original splash screen:

2. Save it to the Tools folder of your AndroidSDK (same place you saved the Recovery Image etc.).

3. Turn on your phone by holding down Back and Power to get to Fastboot mode, then plug it into the computer.

4. Open the command prompt on your computer, then type:

cd\
cd AndroidSDK\tools
fastboot flash splash1 splash.nb

5. Reboot the phone once it is done.

1. Once you have Rooted your HTC Magic without any issues, find a ROM that you want to use either in our Android ROM sections and download it to your computer (MAKE SURE THAT YOU ONLY TRY TO USE A ROM FOR THE HTC MAGIC AND FOR THE CORRECT MOTHERBOARD, 32A or 32B or you will brick your phone!

Procedure for 32A and 32B -

1. Download a ROM (make sure you are downloading a ROM specific to your own motherboard, 32A ROMs for 32A motherboards and 32B ROMs for 32B motherboards).

2. Save the ROM you want to use to your computer.

3. Plug in your phone via USB cable and pull down the notification on the phone’s screen. Select USB and click Mount.

4. Copy the ROM you downloaded earlier to the SD card of the phone and rename it to update.zip.

5. Turn off the phone

6. Turn the phone back on by holding down the Home and Power button to get into recovery mode.

12. Once the phone boots up into the recovery screen, select Apply sdcard:update.zip from the options.

13. Once the phone reboots, you should be running a new custom ROM!

Reported Issues

Issue: When I open the command prompt and do step 9 and type fastboot devices, nothing comes up.

Solution: You need to load the drivers, go back to to the How To Root Your HTC Magic video.

Issue: I loaded the ROM and everything worked, but now I can’t type anything.

Solution: Goto Menu > Settings >Locale & text then click Select locale.
Select your location/language.
Go back and click on Touch input and make sure it is correct for your language.
Go back and click on Tutorial and the keyboard should come up. Close it and you should have the keyboard in all apps now.

Issue: When I get into the recovery screen on the computer and try to push the Apply SDCard Update.zip option it just gives me an error saying something about it can’t mount the SDcard or something?

Solution: Hit Reboot and then take out the battery from the phone.
Then take out the memory card and put it back in, then put the battery back in.
Turn on the phone by holding down the back and power key and wait until FASTBOOT comes up on the screen.
Start back at Step 11 and try again. (If it gives you the same error, repeat this solution and try again).
