Ok so Apple made their big announcement today about the Apple iPad (lame name I know, but eh what can you do).

Here’s the low down so far:

Pricing:

$499 for the 16GB Wifi Only Model
$599 for the 32GB Wifi Only Model
$699 for the 64GB Wifi Only Model

Adding 3G to any of the models adds $130.

Availability:

The Wifi Models will be available in about 60 days.
3G Models will be available in about 90 days.

3G Plans:

AT&T is offering a special 3G plans for the iPad:

250MBs for $14.99/month
Unlimited Data for $29.99/month

The real interesting thing about it is the fact that these 3G plans carrier no contractual obligations. Sign up on the iPad over Wifi and cancel on the iPad over Wifi at any time.

Points of Interest:

No Contract and No Contract Data plans from AT&T
iPhone OS
Can run all current iPhone apps (either in a Window or with stretched double pixel viewing)
There will be Wifi and 3G versions of all sizes (for a price increase)
The 3G units are completely unlocked, use them on any GSM carrier you wish (but they use a new MicroSIM that noone yet carriers…)
No word on making a CDMA version yet, sorry Verizon. (Let me know if you hear otherwise)

What do you guys think? Anyone like it? Anyone who doesn’t have an iPhone want one of these instead? Anyone with an iPhone see a point in getting what is essentially a bigger iPhone?

Curious about the 3G frequencies myself, any 1700mhz in it by chance? This way T-Mobile users can use it as well and it’s not just an AT&T only device by technical specs as opposed to actual exclusivity deal?

I’m not sure if I like it or not. I will have to play with it and see. I think I would get it with out the 3G built in since I have my Nexus One rooted and can just use wireless tether to connect it. Save my self $30 a month from that AT&T plan. Downside is the phone will drain faster then the iPad will.

Fail, imo. no adobe flash. no multitasking. it’s huge and awkward/dorky. reminds me of the old ‘brick’ cellphone except this can’t even make calls or SMS, lulz.

So even though AT&T has plans for the device they won’t have a sim card that fits in the phone? Odd…for $30 a month might as well get the AT&T plan, that’s a good enough deal for me.

I dont like how its just a larger version of the iphone, i mean they couldnt even redo atleast the lock screen to make it unique

completely pointless, this thing is huge(10 inch screen plus at least an inch and a half on each side makes it bigger then a netbook), i would rather have an iphone that is able to fit in my pocket.

this thing is ugly like heck with the massive black border around it

TWIGS… when you tether the nexus just charge it at the same time… as far as the ipad goes, it has no cd/dvd drive and no flash player! how does this differ from my ipod 3g?
i tell ya! all i want in life is sense ui, multi touch and a slide out keyboard from android man!!!

Hahaha really look like a bigger version of the iphone If I want something this size I will take a Sony Vaio X series its a fucking net book really powerfull alot more than this its the same weighs … you can put a sim card too wi-fi everything a 128ssd … 2g rams a hybrid video card OR if you want a little bigger the New alienware M11X …

I didn’t like the iPhone small. Still won’t like it big. If it has OS x or something, then its a different story but it uses the iPhone os

why buy ipad? buy a macbook instead!

1.no flash
2.no multi tasking
3.no camera
4.just 1ghz? they could make a iphone with 1ghz
5.no OSx

unless they improve, android or iphone is much better than that.

Here is one vid I hadn’t seen yet from CES on the Dell Mini 5…

Seems they consider it more of a Data device then a phone… Phone stuff is secondary… I don’t see the desktops to be capable of rotating, which reminds me one of the things I don’t like about the N900… Will have to learn more about that Dell UI…

Anybody have any contacts @ Dell to throw some ?’s at them…lol
