So Androidandme has come across two things; a possible release date for the Verizon Incredible and some rumored specs that, I’m sure most would agree, people would secretly hope was true (whether it is or not, we have yet to find out).

According to DailyTech, a Verizon source has said that the Incredible will be available in about 2 weeks. So by the end of March dear Verizonites, you may have your Android superphone.

The second thing Androidandme reported, is that there MAY be some tweaks to the originally released specs. The original specs had the phone pegged very similar to the Nexus One (which is also supposed to release on Verizon soon), with adding a few features like an optical trackpad, FM tuner, 8MP camera, and Sense UI. Now, the new rumored specs would have it a bit more of a competitor.

So the only major changes with the new specs are no more underclocking of the Snapdragon, more ROM, and more RAM. Now, the processor being set to 1Ghz, makes perfect sense. The Nexus (being a very similar phone) has used it without any issues, so why would Verizon underclock this one (usually underclocking is done to increase battery life, but since the Nexus One seems to not be getting too many battery complaints, there would be no reason to do this).

Next the RAM, would be a great addition. More RAM = more processes and apps can be run at one time, aka multitasking. So that would be a welcome sight, but the question is, will HTC put 1GB of RAM in a phone with an OS that only allows 6 apps to be running at once? Maybe if there were some hardcore games out (or coming out soon) or if there were some serious other processes running in the background (HTC Sense? But it runs fine on the Desire with less RAM), you could possibly see them putting it in.

Now as for the 6Gb rumored ROM, this seems a bit far fetched. The ROM is the read only memory of the phone and contains things like the OS, native apps, etc. The only way Verizon would need 6GBs of ROM is if they planned to put 4GBs worth of their own proprietary software etc in the phone, which is unlikely (unless there is some crazy app they have that needs 4Gbs).

Whether the specs are the original or latest, it will still be a welcomed site to Verizon users in the next couple of weeks, I’m sure.

    As far as I know, ROM still stands for Read Only Memory. Why would the Incredible have 6GB of ROM? I’m pretty sure it’s standard flash RAM. I’ve also seen that even though it’s a 1GHz CPU, it’s underclocked to 768MHz to save battery power.

    6Gb or 6GB, out of curiosity? This article is using the lowercase “b”, but there actually is a difference between lower- and upper-case “b” in engineering terminology.

    b = bit
    B = byte = 8 bits

    512 MB = 4096 Mb = 4 Gb

    So, therefore…

    6 Gb = 6144 Mb = 768 MB (MegaBytes)

    Also, 1 Gb (Gigabit) = 256 MB (Megabytes) of RAM, which would line up with the original rumors that the Incredible would only have 256 MB of RAM versus the Nexus One’s 512.

    And my apologies, 1 Gb = 1024 Mb = 128 MB. If THAT’s the case, then the memory has actually been reduced below the earlier rumors.

    1. not underclocked updated specs are listed at full 1ghz. idle at 245mhz, works at 768mhz, and when pushed full 1ghz
    2. ROM – 512MB flash + 8GB moviNANDe (of which 6.2-6.4) is useable the rest is dedicated to os and sense)
    3. initially does not support 720 but rumors have may be built in and capable through future updates
    4. originally rumored for mar 27th, most likely first half of april.

    What kind of noob crap is this? Android can run an unlimited number of apps. The home long press is the last 6 apps USED, not the only apps running.

    Get a task killer app and you’ll see 30+ processes listed.

      Processes and Apps are not the same thing.
      It can only run six apps at once. Watch when you open the 7th and then open the first one you opened originally, it will start back at the start up screen for that app (as opposed to if that app was still in the list of 6 apps it would start wherever you left it when you navigated to another app). In other words it closes the first app when you opened the 7th. Hence it is only running 6 apps at once.
      Processes are DIFFERENT.

    Verizon is good at locking out features that a phone is designed with if they think they can make money by offering it as an option or if they will lose money on it. I’m not a fan of Android, I like WinMo better, but if the specs are right on the incredible, I will get it. I’m due for an upgrade in 3 weeks and had my mind made up with the TP2 until ths news. Just depends on how locked down verizon makes it. I like the fact that the TP2 is fully customizable with unlocked ROMs and you can run 8 apps at a time. In any case, if the incredible comes in at close to the same price, I’ll likely give it a shot.

    eidolways, Sorry to burst your bubble(and all the time you spent converting bits to bytes) but when we are looking at HARDWARE specs, not NETWORK transfer or throughput, then the measurement is in bytes. RAM, ROM, or hard drive space are measured in bytes. Why you ask? Because while a bit may be the smallest piece of data your PC or phone may be able to understand it must convert them into bytes to be anything usable. Network traffic is almost always measured in bits. So your 5 megabit/sec cable connection can transfer a file(called throughput) at .625 megabytes/sec(625KB/sec). You can not go buy a 1 Gigabit SD card, stick of RAM, or other memory storage device.

    htc incredible will surely be one of the hottest phone that Verizon has launched. Plus if you get some great case for the better it will look.
