Sprint's HTC Evo 4G WiMax Phone Announced Today at CTIA

The HTC Supersonic on Sprint’s 4G network we’ve been hearing so much about was finally announced today at CTIA. Along with the announcement comes a new name, the codename Supersonic has been replaced by the new name; Evo.

So say hello to the new HTC Evo for Sprint’s 4G Network! Here are the released specs:

Processor: 1Ghz Snapdragon Processor
Screen: 4.3″ Capacitive Touchscreen
OS: Android 2.1 WITH HTC Sense UI (Second Android 2.1 phone finally!)
Camera: 8MP w/720P HD Video Recording
Other: Runs on Sprint’s new 4G data network (select markets)

So pretty much exactly what the rumors thought, no?

Personally I like the 4.3″ screen, 3.7″ on the Nexus is nice, but 4.3″ is perfect handheld screen size in my opinion. And the 8MP camera over the 5MP camera that comes on the Nexus is a nice change too, better camera is never a problem.

So where is this 4G you might ask? Wondering this myself, I decided to take a look at Sprint’s 4G coverage map and at first glance, I can’t see any 4G. You guys have Sprint’s 4G where you live?

Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

  1. I think this phone rocks. But no 4G in my area, and none even publically planned until past 2011, by which time I think there will be better phones available (or maybe I won’t live in this shit town called Phoenix.)

I’d buy it in almost an instance though if
    a) they allow us non-4G dweebs to buy it
    b) and it’s appropriately priced
    c) it’s known to work as well or better as a 3G phone than other current 3G phones. That is, they can’t have skipped on the 3G.

Sense UI is nice, but I had a hero and now a nexus, and the only think I miss about the hero era’s sense ui is that the “phone button” is always present and always in the same location.

With a built in stand, and a forward facing camera, and wimax, Sprint needs to start advertising on Chatroulette. This is a 4G sex toy.

  2. I can’t wait to until they release this phone, I love my hero even with it MMS problems but andriod 2.1 and 4g… that is all I need (for the moment…lol)

  3. I wish they’d decide whether Android should have a scroll ball, d-pad, optical mouse or nothing. How are game devs supposed to make control schemes for a half dozen different types of hardware setups … and that’s not even addressing the different chips inside.

Looks like a great phone, though. Depending on what the data tethering contract costs, this could be a winner. Samsung’s is nice, too.

    1. Huis,

Um, one is Windows and one is Android.. no swapping of ROMs most likely. Now, there is an app for Windows to run Android but it is in very basic form still, not like flashing a ROM.

  4. oh ok, but wat i meant was like wats been goin on wit the touch pro 2 n other winmo devices, converting them to androids. well i hope sumthin can be done cus i think android is the best os yet(after tryin out bb,iphone, n now winmo) oh n wats the name of that app i wanna try it out in my hd2 before i go return it lol n thanks for the help!
