Real Games Finally Come to Android High End Phones

So real game studios are finally taking an interest in Android. Gameloft, a game studio currently making a nice chunk of money from their iPhone games, has announced that 10 of their games will be making their way to the Android platform (only on WVGA resolution phones though). They include:

Asphalt 5
Let’s Golf!
Assassin’s Creed
Hero of Sparta
Gangster: West Coast Hustle
Dungeon Hunter
Real Football 2010
N.O.V.A.
Modern Combat: Sandstorm
and Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.K.

Now, they are all paid games, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Considering they are made by a real studio with a fulltime staff, and are true 3-D well thought out games, paying a little bit is expected (and worth it).

Now the really cool thing about Gameloft making games for Android, is that this could finally bring other real developing studios (game creators and otherwise) over to the Android market and give Android some needed higher quality apps. I’m sure other studios will wait to see how Gameloft does financially with these games before they decide to jump on the bandwagon…

What do you guys think about having some higher end studios join Android, what about paid apps? Worth it?

    Gameloft has always been doing great games. I have fond memories even playing Prince of Persia on a Nokia as a Java app. I would pay for this if they make quality ports and eventual original games for Android.

  • It’s about time android did some catching up regarding apps I personally prefer the desire over the iPhone anyday the only thing good about iPhone is the fact most of there apps are on form where as android are still lagging behind a bit.

    While this is great news and greatly needed, I think this will just be a test bed for a few. 3.0 is when software developers will finally start making serious games for the android OS. By that point Android would probably appear as a solid platform to start building on. 2.2 looks great, but I have a feeling it will be a bit buggy for while, as all new developments usually are. Gotta work out the kinks.

  • If i where a developer, android would be on my top list for developing apps. It’s a no brainer since every sell phone network carries an android device lol.

  • With many of the newest phones getting improved hardware, game
    developers will be jumping on board more and more. Within the next couple of
    years most all smart phones will be dual core or better with excellent
    graphics, etc. Now if Google can keep up their end of the bargain and
    continually insure a stable and robust OS, the rest will be a piece of
    cake.

    Google has the cash to create their own entertainment division much like
    Microsoft has done if they really wanted to – I’m not sure if Google really
    gets it, but apps and gaming are what consumers want to blow their money on.

    Apple changes a premium to develop for iOS and Apple also gets to keep 25-30%
    of the revenue. With Android, development is completely free and the developers
    get to keep 100% of the revenue. You would think that developing for Android
    would be a no-brainer…
