Engadget got their hands on the Android 2.1 firmware for the Dell Streak yesterday and they decided to share some of the improvements they’ve noticed as well as a video:
| The Android 2.1 update is coming through O2 overseas “early next month” and Froyo is coming “in September” |
| NumPad and Capslock are gone from the keyboard |
| Google Maps now supports Pinch to Zoom |
| New dialer skin |
| Android’s Gallery App preinstalled |
| Music player received a minor UI update |
| Music player controls work when screen is locked |
| 720P Video recording has been added |
| icons on the homescreen now only fit 24 per page instead of 32 as before |
| Second taskbar button from the left now shows recent apps |
| Dell’s own RSS and music widgets have been made wider |
Engadget also put up a few benchmark scores that we can compare to the Streak’s 1.6 benchmark scores and see how Android 2.1 improved performance:
| Android 1.6 on Streak | Android 2.1 on Streak | |
| LinPack | 4.183 MFLOPS | 6.949 MFLOPS |
| Quadrant | 468 | 767 |
| Fps2D | 28 fps | 30 fps |
| An3DBench Total Score | 2317 | 3521 |
Can imagine the difference when you root it and load Android 2.2 on it…
