The “administrative issues” have been dealt with and Sprint is now beginning to roll out the bug fixes. The update will not upgrade the OS itself but it will fix some minor/major bugs like

  • WiFi standby battery drain
  • Amazon MP3 cannot download in 4G
  • Large emails lag in upload speeds
  • Increased 3G upload speeds

To update your software

  1. The software will be automatically downloaded to your phone by OTA (over the air) since this is a recommended update.
  2. A System update screen will prompt the user to ‘Install now’ or ‘Install later’.
    If ‘Install later’ is selected, a reminder will be sent once or twice a day to install the update.
    If ‘Install now’ is selected, the phone will power down and then reboot.

Important Notes:
– This update will take approximately 7-8 minutes to download and 7-8 minutes to install.
– The new software version is: S:D700.0.5S.DI18
– This update is available OTA (over the air) and will be pushed to your device. It is being pushed in stages, beginning on 9/30 12:00AM EST, and will be rolled out to users over several days so if you do not get it right away do not worry.
– Your device must be on software version DI07 to perform the update to DI18. If you are still on DG17 or DG27, a Sprint Service and Repair Center should be able to update your device to DI07. The update from DI07 to DI18 is not yet available to the Service and Repair Centers. As soon as it is, this post will be updated.

    Ya another update from corrupt aholes like sprint and samsung.First they advertise the phone with 512mb ram and 1gb rom and advertise the phone ad having the tv out function from the 3.5ml head jack.The phone only comes with 512mb rom and only 340mb of ram they used a chunk of ram to fix the lag problem.And they removed the video out function via a software update(a function we paid for).Wether they did it because of sprint tv or they were worried about excessive bandwidth use,they still didn’t have a right too.And this update takes your ability to download or run the tv.com app from the market place.Could it be because they want to force sprint tv down your throat so you have to buy their channels.Or could it be so you have to buy episodes from samsungs new app (media hub) or could it be both.You be the judge.From my point of view, both companys have corrupt aholes in charge and I wish people would get together and file a class action,lawsuit against them.

    Another example of sprints corruption is when them and htc would not let evo owners return or exchange their phone due to screen seperation.Claiming that its only cosmetic and not a problem.Ya well it becomes a problem in a few months when it gets so bag that moisture and dirt get in your phone and ruin it.Its not the customers fault that sprint and htc hurried the evo out without having all the bugs worked out.So they could have the first 4g phone on the market.So I recommend not going to sprint unless you absolutely have to.Im stuck with them dont’ maker the same mistake I did.Thought I was lucky that radio shack let me trade my evo in for an epic but it turned out to be a whole new bunch of bullshi*.

    • If you do not like Sprint you can just switch carriers. If you are going to switch then I highly suggest finding out how long it takes companies to inform their employees about new products. For example T-Mobile tends to be about 2 weeks before the release.
      Anyways I agree with you on they need to get their facts correct before releasing specs to the press but some of the information can be wrong from the press. Personally I try my hardest to make sure I have all my facts straight but other writers might mix a rumor as a fact. A general rule to find out if its facts or not when your reading articles from sources that your not use to is find about 5 articles and if they all say the same thing then its likely to be fact. Or you can do my fav thing which is go to the origin of the story so you can get the raw data.

    Major improvement of the battery life after the upgrade my epic is now on without charging for 36 hours that’s since I got the upgrade and the battery meter is still full. ..before I could not even stay till afternoon without charging. Also the several email accounts download the email’s without restarting to the combined email account.
    I am very happy with epic now especially with the great battery life looks like it goes over more days I keep you posted…

    • I just did the upgrade. I already love the phone. I’m sure the “bug fixes” will only make me enjoy the Epic even more. Good job Samsung. I love this screen.
