It happened with the Milestone (which is yet to get to the promised “Flash ready” stage, officially) and now Motorola has done it again.  The company has now announced that the Flipout (model number MB511) and Charm (MB502) will be denied the sweet, succulent update to Froyo and are destined to remain with the same OS version, Android 2.1 Eclair.

Compared to other companies who are more benevolent in bestowing updates (cases in point, HTC and Samsung), Motorola has been stingy with doling out exactly that, but this should come as no surprise to many looking at its past.  But with users already eyeing Gingerbread and its improvements, will this kind of stance allow Motorola to maintain the foothold that it has gained via Android in the last few years? That is something we will have to wait and watch on, but until then, we’ll have to turn to our dev community for solutions and if something pops up for either of these unfortunate devices, you’ll find it in our ROMs section!

  • I expect nothing less from Motorola. They did the same thing to the Cliq owners. I said I would never buy Motorola again after that. If I was to guess, I would say that they will do something like this with the Xoom tablet when its time to update.

    • you might want to check our ROMs section, could be something in there that is helpful

  • I have been using my Milestone for over a year right now and have not encountered any of the issue you mentioned. The phone works perfectly fine and given Milestone 2 is already available. I’ll upgrade my cell phone.

  • Cuttie1139: you need the stock ROM, available from your carrier website support area usually, or if you have an unlocked non-carrier branded device, HTC. You’ll usually need your IMEI, which is displayable on your device.

    If your goal is to have warranty repairs, you want to no longer have HSPL too. Then you need the HSPL installation files and to revert to the proper SPL for your device.
