How to Root the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE (SGH-I957)

Rooting your Android device opens up a host of possibilities that are not usually available on a stock, untouched device.  This could include installing and using root-only apps that give far superior authority on your device and even paves the way to flash custom ROMs, which will give you all the features that are not usually available on a stock device.  The guide below will help you take that first step, and root your Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE and get you on your way to custom ROMs in no time.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  Back up everything that you feel is important.

2.  Make sure that you have your device charged to 75% or more before you begin with this procedure.

3.  Ensure that you have the necessary Samsung USB drivers before you begin with the procedure.  If you haven’t already done so, get the Samsung drivers and install them before you start.

4.  You will need to have installed ClockworkMod Recovery already to follow this procedure.  Use our guide to help you with this if you haven’t already installed it.

II.  Necessary Downloads

superuser.zip [Download link available under Method 1, Step 8 of this post]

III.  Rooting the Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE

1.  Connect your device to your PC and copy the superuser.zip file you downloaded above to your device’s internal SD card.

2.  Disconnect and turn off your device.

3.  Press and hold the Volume Up + Power buttons until you get into ClockworkMod Recovery.

4.  Once you are in recovery mode, use the Volume Up and Down keys to navigate to the Install zip from SD card option and press the Power button to select it.

7.  Locate the superuser.zip you copied above and press the power button to select it.

8.  Select Apply superuser.zip on the next screen.

9.  Reboot once done.

  1. Follwed the above procedure and it appeared to work fine, but when I check I do not have root access. Is there something missing from the above? I have a used ATT Galaxy Tab sgh-i957. Thanks
