How to Root the Samsung Galaxy R (I9103)

While it’s usually rooting and then installing ClockworkMod Recovery on any Android device, it’s the other way around for some Samsung device.  The same is true for the Samsung Galaxy R, on which we recently brought you a guide to installing CWM, and this post will show you how to root that device with no fuss.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  You must have ClockworkMod Recovery installed on your device before you can proceed.  If you haven’t already done so, use our guide to help you with this.

2.  Ensure that your device has at least 75% of it’s battery charged before you begin.

3.  As a precaution, back up everything you feel is important before you begin.

II.  Necessary Downloads

Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip

III.  Rooting the Samsung Galaxy R

1.  Connect your device to your PC and copy the Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip file you downloaded above to your device’s internal SD card.

2.  Disconnect and turn off your device.

3.  Power on the device and wait for the Galaxy R splash screen.  Once it appears, release the power button, press and hold the Volume Up + Home buttons until you get into ClockworkMod Recovery.

4.  Once you are in recovery mode, use the Volume Up and Down keys to navigate to the Install zip from SD card option and press the Home button to select it.

7.  Locate the the Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip you copied above and press the Home button to select it.

8.  Select Apply superuser.zip on the next screen.

9.  Reboot once done.

You should see the Superuser app in your app drawer once your device reboots!

I installed CWM on my phone (using the other tutorial on how to do it). Then i rooted it using this tutorial. Everything worked fine, I have Superuser installed, but it doesn’t seem to work. I open Superuser, there are NO apps in the apps list, NO log info in the logs list. When I try to UPDATE it, fails to download any new binary. Any idea how to fix it?

  2. I followed your steps and when i select the zip file in recovery mode return success messages, but when i open cwm says i’m not root, and with root checker app, the same answer. I was root with old version of android, and later, i installed by odin a original newer version of android, so i have a Samsung Galaxy R (I9103) with Android 4.0.4 (IMM76D) now ¿Why i can install root zip without any problem but that doesn’t work?
