How to Root the Samsung Captivate Glide

Samsung Captivate Glide, also known as Samsung I927, is an Android smartphone and is one of the smartphones that came with Android 2.3 Gingerbread and got upgraded to Android 4.0 ICS later on. If you’ve got this device and are looking to root it, probably to break all those restrictions imposed by your stock ROM, then the guide below is what you should be looking for. It teaches how you can root your Samsung Captivate Glide and get all those third-party goodies up and running on it, all in no time. And here you go:

I. Before You Begin:

1. This will void the warranty of your device. However, you can reinstate the warranty by unrooting your device if there’s any unrooting procedure available.

2. Your device should have at least 50% of battery life left.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. ClockworkMod Recovery (It’s attached in the first post)

2. Odin

3. Superuser

III. Flashing CWM Recovery on the Samsung Captivate Glide:

1. Download and place all the files onto your Desktop.

2. Unzip files from ClockworkMod as well as Odin archives over to your Desktop.

3. Double-click on the Odin executable file and it’ll open.

4. Click on PDA and select the ClockworkMod Recovery file you extracted earlier to your Desktop.

5. Checkmark the boxes that say Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time.

6. Make sure Repartition is unchecked in the Odin.

7. Turn OFF your device.

8. Pull the battery out of your device and put it back in after about two minutes.

9. Reboot your device into Download mode. To do so, press and hold Volume UP+Power buttons together.

10. Press the Volume UP button to confirm your action.

11. Plug in your device to your PC using the USB cable.

12. Hit Start in the Odin and it’ll begin flashing the Recovery on your device.

13. Once the recovery’s been flashed, your device should automatically reboot.

14. You’re done!

Great! You’ve successfully flashed CWM Recovery on your device, it’s time to root that beast now!

IV. Rooting the Samsung Captivate Glide:

1. Connect your device to your PC via USB cable.

2. Copy the Superuser zip over to the root of your SD card.

3. Once it’s been copied, disconnect your device from your PC.

4. Turn OFF your device.

5. Turn it back on by holding down Volume DOWN+Power buttons together.

6. You should boot into the CWM Recovery mode.

7. Select install zip from sdcard followed by choose zip from sdcard.

8. Choose the Superuser zip you copied earlier to be flashed on your device.

9. It should start flashing the zip on your device, should take only a few seconds to finish.

10. Once the zip has been flashed, reboot your device.

11. You’re now fully rooted!

  1. Hi there — works like a charm, but y phone speaker now sounds like it’s all fuzzy. Is that just my stupidity, or have others seen this?
