How to Unlock the HTC One

It’s always a good deal in the long run if you buy an unlocked device, since you will be able to change carriers if you don’t like your current one with no hassle, but if you are already on a contract though, unlocking it will definitely go a long way if you want to change carriers mid-contract.

The same goes for the HTC One, which is more than a year old now.  Its quad-core 1.7GHz CPU with 2GB RAM and 32GB of on-board storage will surely keep firmware updates coming in for this device for another two years at the least, which means you could get more mileage from the device, even after your contract expires with your current carrier.  But if you want to hop over before your contract expires (may be another carrier offers a better data plan or any other reason), getting an unlock code is an easy and cost-efficient way to do just that.

I.  Locate the Device’s IMEI

1. Pull down the notification shade.

2. Tap the gear/settings icon at the top.

3. Scroll all the way down to About Phone.

4. Tap Status.

5. Write down the IMEI number listed there.

 II.  Purchase an Unlock Code

1. Either Google for an unlock code provider or purchase one directly from us by inputting the IMEI number below and clicking Buy Now (cost is $29.95 and a full refund is given if we are unable to produce an unlock code). Generating the code takes between 2-3 days usually so after you’ve purchased just wait for an email from us (or the unlock code provider if you choose to go that route instead) with the unlock code in it.

 III.  Input the Unlock Code

1.  You’ll eventually receive the email with the unlock code(s). (IF YOU HAVEN’T RECEIVED YOUR CODE AFTER 3 DAYS AND YOU PURCHASED IT FROM US, PLEASE USE ANY CONTACT US FORM TO CONTACT US).

2.  Remove the SIM card if there is one.

3.  Insert an unauthorized SIM card into the device.

4.  You will be prompted for a code when you turn on the device.  Input the first code you received via email and click OK. If that doesn’t work, try the second code.  Once it says successful, the device should say the new carrier’s name at the top left.

IV.  Setup the Internet and MMS Settings

1.  Go to Settings > More… > Mobile networks > Access Point Names.

2.  Tap the three dots (or plus sign) at the top right of the screen and select New APN.

3.  Enter in all the information for your carrier into the proper fields. You can find your carrier’s internet settings here sorted by country/carrier alphabetically.

4.  Tap the three dots at the bottom once all of that info is filled in and click Save.

5.  Tap the dot to the right of the new APN in the list.

6.  Pull down the notification bar and tap the quick settings button in the top right corner.

7.  Turn on Airplane mode. Wait 10 seconds.  Turn Airplane mode back off.

You should now be holding a completely unlocked HTC One in your hands!  If you do face any problems with the whole process, use any contact form on the site like we said earlier and we’ll get back to you right away!  If you don’t face any problems though, your phone is now capable of handling any SIM you throw at it, including the ones that enable you to go international roaming without the added charges that your current provider asks for!
