How to Root the LeTV 1S

LeTv, a name that may not ring a bell in your mind, is a company that sells budget-friendly – and quite premium-looking – Android phones. Their recent launch – the 1S – is an Android smartphone with high-end specs without the high-end price tag.

If you happen to have purchased this phone, you might feel like you’ve explored every feature it has to offer, but, as with most Android phone, you can have more features added to your phone by rooting it. Rooting, aka gaining administrative rights to install custom software on the phone, is one thing that opens up hidden customization opportunities and really get the most out of your device.

Gaining root on the LeTv 1S is a breeze if you just get the right tools downloaded on your PC. The following guide will not only help you root the LeTv 1S, but also flash a custom recovery to gain even more customization options.

Before You Begin

  1. This could void the warranty of your device. We won’t be held responsible for anything that happens from doing this tutorial so please proceed at your own risk.
  2. This uses the universal Kingoroot method to root the device.
  3. You must have a Windows based PC to do this procedure as the tool that you’re going to use to flash a custom recovery is Windows only.
  4. You should have ADB drivers installed on your PC. Install them if they aren’t already.
  5. This should flash a custom recovery called TWRP on your device.
  6. This procedure should also help you unroot and get your device back to the stock.
  7. This only works for the LeX507 variant of the device. You shouldn’t try this on any other variant or device.
  8. This procedure should erase the data stored on your device. So, please backup everything that you’ll need later on.

How to Root the LeTv 1S

To root the device, you’ll use the Kingoroot app that roots a number of Android devices in a single-click. And then you’ll use SP Flash Tool to flash a custom recovery on the device. Here’s how to do that all:

Downloading Required Files

  1. Download Kingoroot and save it to your desktop.

  2. Download Fastboot and save it to your desktop.

  4. Download SP Flash Tool and save it to your desktop.

  5. Download Stock Firmware and save it to your desktop.

Rooting the LeTv 1S

KingoRoot

  1. Connect your device to your PC using a USB cable.
  2. Copy Kingoroot APK from your desktop over to the internal storage on your device.
  3. When Kingoroot’s copied, disconnect your device from your PC.
  4. Head to Menu > Settings > About phone and tap on Build number for 7-8 times and it’ll say you’re a developer. That should unlock the developer menu on your device.
  5. Head to Menu > Settings > Developer options and turn on USB debugging.
  6. Head to Menu > Settings > Security and turn on Unknown sources.
  7. Launch File Manager and find and tap on Kingoroot APK to install the app on your device.
  8. Launch the app once it’s installed from the app drawer.
  9. Tap on Root in the app to begin rooting your device.
  10. Wait for the app to gain root access on your device.
  11. Once the app says your device’s rooted, reboot your device.

Congrats, your LeTv 1S is now rooted and you can now unlock the bootloader on your device to then flash a custom recovery on it. Here’s how to unlock the bootloader on your device:

Unlocking the Bootloader on the LeTv 1S

Bootloader-Unlock

  1. Plug in your device to your PC using a USB cable.
  2. Extract files from Fastboot over to your desktop by right-clicking on it and selecting Extract here.
  3. Launch a command prompt window on your desktop by holding down Shift and right-clicking anywhere on the screen and selecting Open command window here.
  4. When the command prompt window launches, type in the following command and hit Enter:
    adb reboot bootloader
  5. Your device should reboot into bootloader mode.
  6. Type in the following command into the command prompt window and press Enter:
    fastboot oem unlock
  7. Follow the on-screen instructions to unlock the bootloader on your device.
  8. Once the bootloader’s unlocked, reboot your device using the following command:
    fastboot reboot

The bootloader on your LeTv 1S is now unlocked and you can now flash a custom recovery on your device. Here’s how to do that:

SP-Flash-Tool

  1. Extract files from SP Flash Tool over to your desktop by right-clicking on it and selecting Extract here.
  2. Launch the tool by double-clicking on Flash_tool.exe file.
  3. When the tool launches, click on Scatter-loading and choose the scatter file that’s located inside the SP Flash Tool folder.
  4. Select Download Agent as DA_PL.bin recovery and userdata.
  5. Click on Download in the tool.
  6. Turn off your device.
  7. Pull the battery out of your device.
  8. Put the battery back into your device after a few seconds.
  9. Connect your device to your PC using a USB cable.
  10. The tool should automatically start flashing the recovery on your device.
  11. When the recovery’s flashed, reboot your device.

Kudos, you’ve successfully flashed a custom recovery on your LeTv 1S and you’re all set to enjoy all of the goodies the Android custom world has to offer.

For any reasons, if you wish to unroot your LeTv 1S, you can do so using the following steps:

Unrooting the LeTv 1S

Stock-ROM

  1. Make sure you haven’t extracted the stock firmware. It must be in its original format for it to work.
  2. Connect your device to your PC using a USB cable.
  3. Copy Stock Firmware .zip from your desktop over to the internal storage on your device.
  4. When stock firmware’s copied, disconnect your device from your PC.
  5. Turn off your device.
  6. Reboot your device into TWRP Recovery mode by holding down Volume UP and Power keys together.
  7. When the device enters TWRP, select the option that says Install.
  8. Navigate to your internal storage and select Stock Firmware .zip to be installed on your device.
  9. Confirm flash by tapping Swipe to Confirm Flash.
  10. Wait for TWRP to install stock firmware on your device.
  11. When it’s done flashing the firmware, reboot your device by selecting Reboot followed by System in the recovery menu.
  12. Your device should reboot.

And you’re now unrooted and back to the stock firmware.
