How to Fix the OnePlus 3’s Memory Management Issue

One of the biggest noticeable things about the OnePlus 3 is its RAM. The phone boasts a whopping 6GB of RAM that is much higher than all of its competitors frankly. With that much of RAM  on the phone, you can definitely expect it to provide you with some really awesome gaming experience and enhanced performance.

While the phone is in the news because of the RAM amount it has, it hasn’t been without some issues related to it. For some reason, the memory management on the phone hasn’t been working as expected and so it doesn’t let you utilize the full amount of the RAM on the phone. What that means is, although you’ve a huge amount of RAM available on your phone, you can’t take full advantage of it, of course.

A developer on the XDA Forums fortunately, figured out a way to fix it using a tweak he made. While OnePlus has issued an update to fix this issue, if you still notice the RAM slowdown others have reported, then you can use his technique to make sure it’s all fixed.

Before You Begin

  1. Your device must be rooted before you can do this procedure. If you aren’t rooted, head over to our how to root the OnePlus 3 procedure and root your device. Then, come back here and continue.
  2. Please be cautious while doing this procedure as it modifies a system file which is a risky thing. You shouldn’t have an issue if you follow the procedure to the letter.
  3. This is a reversible procedure which means you can get back to the default at anytime you want.

  3. Edit the build.prop file using the ES File Explorer app feature.
  4. Find the following line of code in the file:
    ro.sys.fw.bg_apps_limit=20B
  5. Now, where it says “20” in the code, put in “42”. So, the resulting code should look like the following:
    ro.sys.fw.bg_apps_limit=42B
  6. Save the changes to the file.
