How to Enable Live Photos on Any iPhone (JB Tweak) (Video)

Live photos are a new feature Apple recently launched that allows you to take a photo, as you normally would, but have the phone automatically take a short video a few seconds before and after said photo. The result is when you tap and hold on a photo in your photos app, you get a neat little animation. Fun, right?

Thing is, Apple, as is the norm with them, is restricting this feature to the new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus on claims that it requires the new 3D Touch hardware to work. I have my own gripes about this and how 3D Touch on the phone is just a glorified tap and hold and it seems a developer agrees.

Elias Limneos, a well-known developer in the jailbreaking world, created EnableLivePhotos to do just that: enable live photos on older devices. Once installed, you simply open your normal camera app and the live photos icon will be visible at the top. To view the live photos, simply tap and hold on the photos in your normal photo app. Further proving to me, Apple’s intentional withholding of features from older devices simply to justify an upgrade –but we can talk about that later.

For now, if you want live photos on your older iPhone, here’s how to easily get them.

Jailbreak Your Device

First, you must be jailbroken so please head to my jailbreaking section, click the link there for your version of iOS, complete it, and return here to continue once you have the Cydia store on your phone.

Install EnableLivePhotos

Next we need to install the tweak from the Cydia store by doing the following:

1. Open Cydia.

2. Tap search at the bottom right.

3. Type in EnableLivePhotos and tap it when it comes up.

4. Tap install at the top right.

5. Tap confirm and wait for it to install.

6. Tap restart springboard and wait for it to restart.

Use EnableLivePhotos

There are no options to configure, you can now just use them in your camera app just as if you had an iPhone 6S or 6S Plus. To view the photos, simply open the photos app and tap and hold on the photo to watch it animate. Enjoy!

Any of you guys agree with my viewpoint on the intentional withholding of features? I’m not even sure why 3D Touch is any better than tapping and holding in its current state…
