How to Jailbreak iOS 10.1.1

Luca Todesco, the Italian jailbreaker that showed off jailbreaks in the past without releasing them has finally released a jailbreak of his own. His tool, called Yalu, works to jailbreak iOS 10 up to iOS 10.1.1.

Unfortunately, iOS 10.2 is out so that means this will only work for those that haven’t updated to 10.2 yet and will, of course, become obsolete as more people update to 10.2 (since you can’t downgrade back to 10.1.1). But, if you are on iOS 10.1.1 or a lower version of iOS 10, feel free to follow the steps below to get jailbroken and get Cydia on your iPhone.

I would have done a video for this but of all the iPhones I have here, none are on on iOS 10 that aren’t already on iOS 10.2 🙁

Before You Begin

  • This will only work if you have an iPhone 6S/6S Plus on iOS 10 – 10.1.1 or an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus on iOS 10.1 to 10.1.1.
  • A lot of Cydia Tweaks will not work yet.
  • It is in beta and has some issues, you use this at your own risk and if you need to undo it, you will be forced to restore to iOS 10.2 and that means you won’t be able to rejailbreak until a new jailbreak is released.
  • The jailbreak is semi-tethered like Pangu was.
  • Perform a backup in iTunes before you begin.

Jailbreak iOS 10.1.1

1. Download Cydia Impactor and the jailbreak tool Yalu and save them to your computer (download the Windows version of Cydia Impactor if you have Windows and the Mac version if you have Mac).

2. Double click Cydia Impactor and either put it in your Applications folder on Mac or let it install if you are on Windows.

3. Connect your iPhone via USB cable.

4. Open Cydia Impactor and you should see your device name listed in it letting you know it sees it.

5. Drag and drop the Yalu .ipa file onto the Cydia Impactor window.

6. Put in your iCloud user name and password (this will send it to Apple to get a personal certificate for the installation of the file).

7. Go to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management and tap on the profile that has your email there.

8. Tap trust.

9. Tap the mach_portal app on the screen to open it. You’ll see a white screen, just be patient and let it do it’s thing for a while. It’ll reboot when done.

Now you can head to Cydia and see if there are any tweaks that work, otherwise, wait until it gets updated so that more work and just sit with the jailbreak for now.

Let me know how this worked for you and good luck!

    1. You can download it from felixbruns (Google it) but you can’t install it since Apple stopped signing it. Hence what I mentioned in the video and why it’s not the greatest jailbreak :/

So is this new or a typo. After tapping the link for jailbreak tool Yalu at top of this page I see this…

    beta1
    yalu102 for 6s/SE and iPad Pro 10.0/10.1/10.2

    So is 10.2 now supported?

      1. Hey David thanks for your answer it worked. This is my first time jailbreaking so i have a question as you know if someone loads the app through cydia impactor and uses his or her own personal icloud address the certificate expires within 7 days. Will cydia expire in this case?

        1. Hi Billy,

So yes the issue with this method and using your own iCloud account is it’ll only stay for 7 days before it needs to be resigned. The tweaks etc should stay though you just have to redo this for Cydia every week or so.

  3. Hi David. Do you have a posting that can help with Jailbreaking an iPad Air 2 running 10.1.1? I tried using the ipa and the impactor you posted here but just got the mach_portal installed and once it rebooted, no cydia. Any suggestions?

    1. Update: I installed the beta 7 .ipa and when I ran the yalu102 app it gave me a “Failed, Retry”. Is the iPad Air 2 not supported yet for beta 7?
