How to Remap Bixby on the Samsung Galaxy S10, S10 Plus, & S10e

Praise be to Samsung! After so long of people complaining, and doing everything in their power to circumvent the Bixby button on their Samsung phones, Samsung themselves have finally given us what we’ve wanted all along: a built-in way to remap the Bixby button.

If you’re not familiar, Bixby is Samsung’s own voice assistant and as of a few devices ago they started implementing a dedicated button their phones to be able to call up this voice assistant (and probably to encourage people to try out Bixby instead of the defacto Android assistant: Google Assistant).

The thing is that Bixby, well, hasn’t proven to be the best voice assistant out and while it has some benefits (since it’s made by Samsung and put on their devices Bixby has access to system settings that Google Assistant doesn’t), a lot of people would like to have that Bixby button be used for something they might use more often (or for Google Assistant?).

Bixby Remap

Well, that day has come and so I figured I’d quickly show you guys how to remap the Bixby button using the new Galaxy S10 Plus as an example (but this should work the same on any device that has the latest Samsung One UI installed).

Miss the announcement of all the latest Samsung phones? Check out my quick video here.

Update to the Latest Bixby

Firstly, you need to make sure you have the latest version of Bixby installed. To make sure:

  1. Open the Galaxy App Store.Open Galaxy Apps
  2. Tap the three dots at the top right.Tap Three Dots
  3. Tap on My Page.My Page
  4. Then Update.Tap Update
  5. There should be an update in there for Bixby Wakeup. Tap to install it if it is there, otherwise, if it is not, then you might already have it installed and can continue anyway.Select Bixby Wakeup

Remap the Bixby Button

Next, we need to find the Bixby button settings and change them.

  1. Push the Bixby button to bring up Bixby (if it takes a minute, I’m pretty sure it’s because Bixby knows you’re about to hide her/him/it).Push Bixby Button
  2. Tap the three dots at the right.Tap Three Dots
  3. Tap Settings.Tap Settings
  4. Tap on Bixby Key.Tap Bixby Key
  5. You can either set Bixby to launch when you single or double-tap the Bixby button, and then set whichever you don’t choose to launch something else (I selected to launch Bixby on double-tap so that the single-tap can be used for another app I use more often, but up to you).Choose Single or Double
  6. Then you can tap the Use Single Press/Use Double Press and either choose it to open an app of your choice or run a quick command that you’ve previously set up.
  7. To change either tap the gear icon and then make your selection.Choose App

After that, you’ll be able to use the Bixby button for more than just Bixby (woo!).
