How to Root the Samsung Intercept on Virgin Mobile/Sprint

The Samsung Intercept was released back in 2010, a CDMA device that sported a 3.15MP cam, a 3.2 inch touchscreen display and Android 2.1, pretty usual fanfare for a mid-range device back then.  Two years down the line, this device may be forgotten by many but there should many others who still cling on to it and want something more from this handset.  This is for them and will show them how to root their Samsung Intercept and get that extra bit out of it.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  The following procedure has been known to work with the Samsung Intercept on Virgin Mobile/Sprint networks but there have also been reports of this bricking your device, so exercise caution and proceed at your own risk.

2.  Make sure that you have at least 75% of your device’s battery charged before you begin.

3.  Back up anything you feel is important before you proceed.

4.  This procedure should work with any Samsung Intercept running Android 2.2.1 or Android 2.2.3 (FB01).  So make sure this is what you are running before you begin.

II.  Necessary Downloads

InterceptFroyoRoot v0.2.rar

III.  Rooting the Samsung Intercept

1.  Enable USB Debugging on your device.  To do this, go to Settings > Applications > Development and tick the USB Debugging checkbox.

2.  Enable installation of apps from unknown sources.  To do this, go to Settings > Applications and tick the Unknown sources checkbox.

3.  Connect your device to your PC.

4.  Extract InterceptFroyoRoot v0.2.rar you downloaded above to a folder on your desktop.

5.  From the extracted folder, double-click START_ROOT.bat to begin the process.

6.  Follow on-screen instructions.

IV.  Unrooting the Samsung Intercept

1.  Run through the same steps as the previous section until Step 4.

2.  From the extracted folder, double-click on START_UNROOT.bat to begin unrooting.

V.  Flashing Custom Recovery (Optional)

  1. MW2PWNERROCKS .

doesnt seem to work for me either.. keep getting a lot of permission denied errors with usb storage enabled, and just “closed” errors when trying it with usb storage turned off.. tried the factory rest too, and nothing… unfortunately it was a big waste of time after following everything to the letter, and 20+ attempts….
