How to Root the HTC Desire 500 (Dual Sim Version)

Now that you have a custom recovery on your Desire 500, all you have to do is root it to get complete control of it the way HTC never wanted you to.  The guide below is pretty easy to use and you should be done in no time!

I.  Before You Begin

1.  You will need to have ClockworkMod Recovery installed on your device for this procedure to work.  If you don’t already have it, use our guide and then come back here.

2.  Back up everything you feel is important before you start.

3.  Charge your device to 75% or more before you begin.

II.  Necessary Downloads

CWM-SuperSU-v0.98.zip [Download from here or from this post]

III.  Rooting the Desire 500

1.  Connect your device to your PC and copy CWM-SuperSU-v0.98.zip to your device’s SD card.

2.  Boot your device to recovery mode.  To do this:

i.  Power off your device, take the battery out and put it back in.
ii.  Press and hold the Volume Down + Power buttons until you see a screen with choices.
iii.  Navigate to Recovery using the Volume keys and use the Power button to select the option.

3.  Select ‘Install zip from sdcard‘ and then navigate to the location of CWM-SuperSU-v0.98.zip.  Use the Power button to select the file and then select yes to start flashing the zip file.

4.  Once flashed, go to the main menu and select select ‘reboot system now‘.

That’s it!  You are now rooted and if you don’t believe it, look for the Superuser app in your app drawer or use apps like Root Checker Lite to confirm!

  1. Just bricked mine. I did everythung as you said. Last thing i did, i selected Reboot system now and it just went black.
When i put iit on charger (battery should be full though), i just flashes with orane light.

    1. Remove the battery and wait for 5 min at least, then put it back again and charge and your phone will turn on after couple of minutes. It worked with me, but every time when I turn of my phone I have to do that.

      1. Luckily i got it repaired. I took it to warranty service and said, that it chrashed on system update. Luckily for me they didnt asked much questions and changed motherboard (at first they changed screen, that didnt helped, then they changed motherboard). After a while i found it that this is common issue with motherboard in this model. And that is true as my phone “bricked” second time, this time i didnt rooted it. I just took it out of pocket to check time and it was off. At first i tought that battery died, but charging didnt helped. Symptons were exactly the same as before.

  2. I faced the same problem. My phone didn’t boot after rooting. I took the battery out for 5 mins and then re-inserted. Phone booted. But after, in apps, no Google App is showing. Any idea, where are the rest of the apps gone? If I see menu, all apps are installed and working like Facebook, Twitter, Chrome, Maps etc.

  3. this process does not work for me. After doing everything according to the above steps my device restart after 2 or 3 mins. But there is nothing new. As usual the device was, now the same. No change. Far away from rooting. Any solution??
