The Fastest Phone of 2017 (Surprising Results) (Video)

Doing a quick series of experiments here on the channel. I wanted to put all of the best phones of 2017 up against one another in a series of scientific not really that scientific challenges. Today, we’re going to start with speed.

For this experiment, I put each device, on the same wifi network, installed the same popular apps and games that will, in this case, represent normal use, closed all of their open apps, and then saw how long it would take each one to load each app in a side by side. I chose the phones I figured would have the best chance of winning based on similar tests I’ve seen and just using each device myself. Let’s be clear though that that means any of the phones in here are super fast already compared to a lot of phones, this is really just to see who beats the rest.

So from left to right, we have the Essential Phone, iPhone X, Huawei Mate 10 Pro, Note 8, OnePlus 5T, and the Pixel 2 XL.

Here we go.

The results were kind of all over the place really. Which I was surprised about frankly. But if you tally all the results together by giving them all a point for their place and deciding then that the lowest score would win (because it means they got ranked closer to first place on average) it looks like the OnePlus 5T with 18 points is first which I’m not that surprised by considering it’s stock Android that’s simply been optimized by OnePlus with very minimal UI additions but then by a hair it’s the Note8 which I WAS surprised by considering it has Samsung’s UI on top which historically always makes me feel like the phone isn’t as fast as say a Pixel which of course brings us to third place being the Pixel 2 XL with 22 points compared to the Note8s 21 so we can say that’s really close. Followed by the iPhone X and Essential phone being tied at 27 points and the Mate 10 Pro ending it out with 31 points.

Speed Test Final Results

Now again this isn’t the most scientific test and my point system doesn’t take into account the actual time they all took which I think would show just how close all of these guys were in most of the tests but still super interesting to see and again I was surprised by the Note8 and the Essential. Really figured it’d be the OnePlus 5T, Pixel, Essential and iPhone X on top for being so close to or actually stock OSes versus the rest but there you go.
