TheUnlockr Show: Episode 1/Pilot

In this episode,we do a quick review of Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 OS, we do some tests on the new OS comparing it to the Nexus One (Android OS) and the iPhone 4 (iOS), and we even compare Microsoft’s marketing claims for the new OS against real time time trials to see if what they are saying is just your average marketing fluff or if there is some truth to it after all.

We also do a news segment talking about the new Vizio tablet and phone, AT&T’s new lineup of high-end Android devices (HTC Inspire, Motorola Atrix, and Samsung Infuse) and there official 4G plans, and the new ASUS tablet that uses a capacitive stylus for input.

Since this is a pilot episode, PLEASE comment underneath here and let us know what you liked and didn’t like, any changes you’d like to see, if we should even attempt a show in your opinion, should we just do a news show, some other type of show, etc. Thanks!

  2. Well done David, you did an incredible job, need to see more on these new technologies because when surfing thru youtube its a hassle when we can just watch it straight from your site.

  3. I liked it but I think you spent a little too much time on each topic, I would love to see an episode 2. I am no professional but if you only have 15 min episodes you should try and hit more topics

  4. It was good. Informative and entertaining. The news on electronics is always good to some one who likes it. I for one do!

  5. nice job i think the explanation of windows phone pros and cons was nice but a little too late and news should be more to the second updates do more episodes it will improve over time but do what you are supposed to do not just go with the comments cuz that way you get follower of what you do not of what they making you do

  6. Great show. Congratulations !!! Loved every minute of it.
The Windows Phone test is one of the best I’ve seen so far.
    Keep up the good work.

  9. Good Attempt. When discussing the multi-task function of Win 7 phone, it looked a bit silly. Someone else should call or text the phone… and an image should be placed next to presenter so we can see what’s going on. But all in all good discussion. Just need to borrow a better camera and sound equipment now…..

  15. The show was FANTASTIC! Great info and great detail. Love the humor. Kept me entertained.

A couple of notes: Too much glare from window when u were showing the phone (game vs text) and the sound (when u were speaking) was not always the same level.

  16. I enjoyed the pilot, nicely done! I have to say that for me, the comparisons of Windows 7, Android, and iOS never get old. All OS’s have their pros and cons but I liked the way you compared the hype and marketing messages against actual performance. As always, keep up the good work and I hope to see more of these types of videos from you in the future!

  17. Very cool. Your review style is good and totally impartial. Dont worry about better camera and sound equipment, everythings a ok. For a first episode you did well. Please maintain your cool individual style and only use feedback to guide you. peace

  18. I thought the show was great! I love the first topic of going through the comparisons between the major phones and exposing some of the realities to each OS. I would for sure watch more and will be checking for them in the future!

  21. really good show and i’m looking forward to many more so I’m going to be a new follower on Twitter. It will be nice if you could do a show on the Tablet wars. I’m leaning toward the BB Playbook but I need more info on pros and cons in comparison to others coming out. (Supposedly there is a sync feature that will let you use internet from your BB phone). Looking forward to seeing more of you.

  24. The information is great. The comparison’s were great and the length of the video was great. I would keep music playing in the background the whole time (when you were sending a text message to show the multi tasking). I would also remove all the FILLER words “so” , “ummm”.

I liked how you also made it a two part sequence. First part, hands on…second part news. Keep that.

I enjoyed the show. Make a part two.

  29. I liked it, would definitely watch another.

To be fair I don’t think the windows phone test was necessarily fair. I perceive their claims of “faster” to mean their interface makes more sense so similar complete tasks could be accomplished faster, not just opening windows or websites. Your test of actually uploading a pic to facebook, for example, or composing an email, attaching a file, choosing a contact, and sending. Granted that speed of opening the app is part of that, but you see where I’m going.

Either way I thoroughly enjoy the real world tests you run and really appreciate all the tutorials. Thank you!

  32. LOVE the idea of hearing this type of information from someone with what I consider some credibility. Tired of hearing technology news from people that don’t understand what they are saying, just reading from a card with a smile.

Hope to see more, keep it up!

  35. Great maiden voyage. Good content, well delivered. I would definitely like to see more episodes. The only thing I would like to see improved is the sound quality. Not bad, just not great. With this inaugural offering, I’m sure things will steadily get even better.

  36. Definitely good content. Your audio needs a lot more noise reduction though. Fuzzy stuff. I say go with an episode 4-5. It’s definitely a good start!

  41. This is exactly what I’ve been looking for to keep me updated.
The comparing is great, & the news at the end is even better.
