How to Jailbreak Your iPhone on iOS 7.1.1 / 7.1.2 (Pangu Method) (Video)

Well, the normal team didn’t do it, but there is now a (albeit slightly shady looking) jailbreak for iOS 7.1.1. Using a downloadable .exe file from a team calling themselves Pangu, you can jailbreak your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch by clicking a few things on your computer with the device plugged in. There are a few concerns, however, and why most places are calling this method slightly shady. The first being the sheer size of the program itself, a whopping 70 MBs for what is essentially a script with a pretty UI, a plethora of question marks throughout the UI to really make you question what you are about to do to your device, and the inclusion of freeware when you check the one, unreadable checkbox in the program. Despite all of this, however, people say it’s getting the job done and allowing them to install Cydia without an issue so, eh.

If you can’t wait for the normal peeps to repackage this exploit and make their own jailbreak, then this does offer a solution. Just follow the directions below carefully so you don’t end up with the freeware they also want you to install and if anything weird happens, you’ve been warned.

Here’s how to jailbreak iOS 7.1.1 step by step using Pangu.

I. Before You Begin

1. This only works on Windows at the moment (plans for Mac are said to be coming soon). UPDATE: 06.30.14 – This now works for Mac as well.

2. You must have the latest version of iTunes installed. If you don’t, please head to Apple’s iTunes page, download it, and install it.

3. Turn off any passcode/password/Touch ID/etc. before beginning as the device reboots during this procedure and if there is any type of lock it will mess it up.

II. Change the Time on the iPhone

1. Open Settings.

2. Tap on Date & Time.

3. Turn Off Set Automatically.

4. Change the date to June 2, 2014 (the time doesn’t matter but the date is important).

III. Jailbreak the iPhone | iPad | iPod Touch

1. Download Pangu and extract it to your desktop.

2. Double click the Pangu .exe file to open it (or the .dmg file then the file inside the new folder that appears for Mac users).

3. Uncheck the box below the progress bar  in Pangu (this stops it from installing other third-party software on the device).

4. Click the Jailbreak Button on the right side of the program.

5. When the progress bar gets about halfway, you’ll notice a Pangu app now on the device, tap it to complete the installation.

6. After another 10 minutes or so it’ll be done (and reboot a few times in the process) and you’ll see Cydia on your iPhone.

Enjoy!

Then you can head to our How To’s section and find your iPhone to be presented with all of our Jailbreak tweaks you can use now that you are jailbroken.

  4. had successfully jailbreak my iphone 4 (7.1.2 ) using this tool. After installing all the tweaks later i discovered that i was unable to download any app from the Appstore or any other source. i thought one of the tweak maybe the culprit and so i restore my device and redo the jailbreak process only to find out that the problem still persist. i think it’s buggy , any advice ?

    1. Something to check with the jailbreak developers or the Cydia community to see of there is a patch.
Also it might help to restore the phone entirely and then retry the jailbreak.

      1. Thanks for replying , i restored my phone to factory setting, re-installed all my tweaks again and fortunately this time with no problem whatsoever. I think a clean install did the trick . Thanks Again David

  5. Okay so i went to Jailbreak my phone, I didn’t see anything to un-check, and it downloaded okay, but I unplugged it before Cydia had a chance to load, and it deleted all my apps my phone came with, and screwed up my Itunes (told me I was missing stuff to start) so i re-installed Itunes, but I would really like my messaging/music/call apps back? And something popped up on my desktop that said Unidentified then some numbers. I am not sure if i have a virus on my computer because when I unplugged it and turned it on a bunch of letters and numbers popped up and it said 184—/184– complete then the file (Desktop). I am not really sure what I did wrong, but please let me know ASAP. Thanks

  6. I went to jailbreak my phone as normal and i did all the right steps, but it stop loading before the middle and pangu had been installed on it.So as the video says i tapped on it then after 2 minutes on the pangu website it stopped jail breaking and said dump caches failed. What have i done wrong?

  9. it doesent work no matter how many times I try it says dump cache failed and ive deleted enough apps to get 4.7 gb free what do I do

  10. after several failed attempts to jailbreak my iphone i decided to upgrade it, and now my phone doesnt work… what can i do to fix the problem

  11. i try to do this but it is saying that my iphone isn’t connected. it just says “connect your device and click the jailbreak button to begin” but my iphone is plugged in, and im running pangu as an admin.

    1. Can iTunes see your iPhone? If not, you might want to try a different USB cable or USB port on the computer. Also make sure you are using a genuine Apple cable (not a generic one from a generic charger as sometimes those don’t transmit data, they only transmit power).

    1. Failing in this case just means it doesn’t work. No harm comes to the phone. Just make sure to do a backup in case you lose some information is all.
Also all the people who failed usually needed to do a full restore before doing the jailbreak and you’ll notice after telling them to do that they never responded afterwards (usually indicating it worked and they no longer needed help).

      Good luck!

  12. I saw your jailbreak video with Icon Masks on YouTube and I couldn’t do it because my iPod is a generation 4. My friend has an iPad mini with iOS 7.1.2 and I showed her how to jailbreak. It worked, and we searched Icon Masks on Cydia, and when we tried to install it, we got the whole ”Reload Springboard” thing and her iPad shut down, but when we’d open it up, we didn’t have the Winterboard app. I don’t know what we did wrong because we followed the video step by step, an it’s not working. Any suggestions? Help please!

  13. So I have the iPad Air 7.1.2 and 4.9GB available on my ipad. The last time my ipad has backed up my info, was a month ago. I have removed as much data as possible. I can’t even back up anything because it keeps telling me there’s not enough storage on icloud but there’s like literally not a lot on my ipad.m(bought the 16gb)

So, would it be risky if I jailbreak my device even though I have not been able to back up for the past month or so? What would you suggest?

Also, if I were to update to iOS 8 (if my ipad even let’s me since it says I don’t have enough storage on my icloud), would my device still be jail broken?

    1. You can jailbreak without the backup. What I would do though is this first to get all your pictures off of it (and then maybe delete them from the iPad if you want to try and free up space, but up to you) – https://theunlockr.com/2013/10/23/how-to-backup-your-photos-and-free-storage-space-iphone/

      Then jailbreak it.

If you update to iOS 8 you will no longer be able to jailbreak, until there is an updated jailbreak that works for iOS 8 (but no telling when that will come out).

  14. Can someone help? im on the pangu site and it says that i can download it for IOS8 but im trying to jailbreak my Iphone 4 which its version is 7.1.2, Should I download it anyway?

  18. I have jailbroken my iphone 4 iOS7.1.2 using pangu when the process is done.,(successdully) i then notice that respring and restarting the phone takes a lot of time., whenever i respring it (due to cydia tweaks : wiinterboard) or restarting the phone., it will took 20-30 mins for me to access the phone (meaning its unresponsive., and lock screen will only show after the said time (20-30 mins)., i think Pangu is very buggy., or? did the jailbreaking had some error??? i cant tell., its very annoying for me that when ever i turn on my phone i cant immediately use it coz i have to wait for it to load the screen., after a couple of times the apple logo appears.., What can you say? im currently restoring my phone (unjailbreaking) and i want to re-jailbreak it again., what would you recommend for me to use? which is better., Pangu? or other jailbreaking tools like red snow etc?? please do help me.,
