I tried this on my HTC Magic (TIM) and it totally crashed, now the handset reboots and I only get the TIM logo for like a zillion years and no other thing 🙁

I had the same problem.
However, some guy posted a link to a tutorial near the end of the Yoshi ROM thread. It worked like money for me, so give it a try:

This works great but the only problem I have is the bar on the top with battery, notifications, connection, and the time.. the time is black and so is that bar and I can never see what time it is. And also when the phone is locked I can’t unlock it without sliding the bar across, is there anyway I can change it to clicking a button twice or something?
i think there was a link on the page so you can download an add on so you can change the color so you can see but the artifects 1.8 i believe is like the best one to me you can like fully customize your phone the way you want it from the notification bar color to customizing app folders…basicly its like 3 roms in one you should check it out and tell me what you think
this is the only rom that works on my (my touch 3g) the other roms say that they are installed but i only get the my touch 3g logo and thats not nice please insure that these so called roms work.

Tried installing this via Rom Manager and got stuck at MyTouch logo screen, had to restore to 1.6. I know i have 32B
