How to Add a Blur Effect to Your Wallpaper in iOS 7 (Video)
Some iPhone/iPad wallpapers look great on Apple’s ultra-crisp Retina display, but it can look even better with a blurred, frosted glass effect. The Blurpaper tweak lets you blur your wallpaper on the lock screen, home screen, dock, and even works with the Paralax effect. It’s a little different to install this tweak as you need to download the developer’s repository, but it’s just as easy to install and use as any other tweak.
I. Jailbreak your iPhone/iPad
To do this procedure you must be jailbroken. If you aren’t, you can head to our Jailbreak How To’s section and pick the jailbreak for your version of iOS (currently at the time of writing this is 7.0.4). Once done with that procedure and you have Cydia installed, head back here to continue.
II. Add Blurpaper Repo to Cydia
1. Open Cydia (if it isn’t still open from the section above).
2. Tap Manage in the bottom right.
3. Tap Sources.
4. Tap Edit in the top right corner.
5. Tap Add in the top left corner.
3. Enter the following into the text field that appears and hit Add Source when done.
http://repo.pnre.co.vu
7. Tap Return to Cydia.
III. Install Blurpaper
1. Open Cydia (if it isn’t still open from the section above).
2. Tap Search in the bottom right corner.
3. Type in Blurpaper.
4. Tap on Blurpaper when it shows up and make sure it says a version higher than 8.X.X (i.e. 8.0.7 at the time of writing this).
5. Tap Install in the top right corner.
6. Tap Confirm in the top right corner.
7. Tap Restart.
III. Setup and Configure Blurpaper
1. Open Settings.
2. Scroll down to Blurpaper and tap it.
3. Tap Settings.
- You’ll see options for Lockscreen and Homescreen. Tap the respective switches to turn the blur effect on or off.
- Tap Lockscreen/Homescreen blur style, then tap Blur (Default is not a blur effect). The other effects don’t really work very well, but check them out if you want.
- Blur radius allows you to adjust how much blur you want.
- Fade blur on unlock will create a fading effect as you swipe to unlock (only really works if you have Lockscreen blurring off).
- Background and Seperator do not appear to work at this time of writing this how to.
- Parallax lets your blurred wallpapers work with iOS 7’s Parallax effect.
4. Tap the home button and check out the blur effect. There is no need to respring or restart your phone after setting up and configuring this tweak.
