How to Add a Floating Music Widget to Your Homescreen in iOS 7 (Video)
Widgets are apps that can run on your home screen and bring you information directly (or control apps) instead of having to be opened. Some good examples of a widget are weather widgets that show the temperature and forecast directly on the screen, or a news feed that shows the latest news articles without needing to open. The iPhone / iPad doesn’t have this ability (unlike Macs and Android). Or does it?
After jailbreaking your device, you can add some widgets to your iPhone device (assuming someone has made one for what you want). If you were thinking a music widget to control your iTunes on your device would be cool, then you’re in luck! Someone has made just that as a jailbreak tweak. Here’s how to install a floating music widget on your home screen in iOS 7.
I. Jailbreak your iPhone/iPad
To do this procedure you must be jailbroken. If you aren’t, you can head to our Jailbreak How To’s section and pick the jailbreak for your version of iOS (currently at the time of writing this is 7.0.5). Once done with that procedure and you have Cydia installed, head back here to continue.
II. Install MiniPlayer
1. Open Cydia.
2. Tap Search in the bottom right corner.
3. Type in MiniPlayer.
4. Tap on MiniPlayer when it shows up.
5. Tap Purchase at the top right and follow the prompts to login and purchase using your preferred method.
6. Tap Close when you’ve paid.
7. Tap Install where Purchase used to be.
8. Tap Restart.
III. Setup the Music Player
1. Go to Settings.
2. Tap on MiniPlayer to change various settings including launching it with an Activator action (head to our Activator video here for more info on that and how to install it).
IV. Use the Music Player
1. Tap on the tab on the right side of any screen to bring out the player.
2. Play your music.
3. Move it around on the screen as necessary.
4. Swipe it to the right to re-hide it.
Enjoy!
