How to Add Swiping Gestures to Switch Between Apps in iOS 7 (Video)

To multitask on your iPhone, you need to double-press the home button to bring up the app switcher. Doing this repeatedly could get frustrating, especially if you mis-hit the home button and end up back at the home screen. Thankfully, the aptly named MultitaskingGestures tweak lets you swipe from the edge of your iPhone’s screen to switch between apps, which makes multitasking easier and faster. Swiping up from the bottom  of the screen will close an open app, or bring up the app switcher if you’re on the home screen.  What about the Control Center, you cleverly ask. You can set the Control Center to appear from the top, rather than from the bottom. MultitaskingGestures is extremely easy to install and use, so follow the instructions and check out the video below.

I. Jailbreak your iPhone/iPad

To do this procedure you must be jailbroken. If you aren’t, you can head to our Jailbreak How To’s section and pick the jailbreak for your version of iOS (currently at the time of writing this is 7.0.4). Once done with that procedure and you have Cydia installed, head back here to continue.

II. Install MultitaskingGestures

1. Open Cydia (if it isn’t still open from the section above).

2. Tap Search in the bottom right corner.

3. Type in MultitaskingGestures.

4. Tap on MultitaskingGestures when it shows up.

5. Tap Install in the top right corner.

6. Tap Confirm in the top right corner.

7. Tap Restart.

III. Setup MultitaskingGestures

1. Tap Settings.

2. Scroll down and tap Multitasking Gestures.

3. Enable/disable each feature by tapping the switch next to Enabled.

  • Restrict In Apps lets you chose apps to prevent from working with MultitaskingGestures.
  • Recognition Area lets you choose which part of your screen will recognize the gestures.
  • If Keyboard Disables is on, it will prevent MultitaskingGestures from recognizing gestures if the keyboard is up.
  • Move To Notification Center lets you move the Control Center from the bottom, where it usually comes from, to the top. It will show up as an option when you swipe down from the top.

IV. Use MultitaskingGestures

1. Swipe from the left or right edges of your screen to switch between open apps.

2. Swipe from the bottom of the screen to close an open app.

3. On the home screen, swipe from the bottom of the screen to bring up the app switcher.

4. For Control Center, swipe down from the top of the screen, and tap Control Center on the top right.
