How to Add a Theme / Change Icons on your iPhone / iPad in iOS 7 (Video)
One of the cooler things about Android is the ability to customize almost all aspects of the UI. From themes, to icon packs, to widgets, replacement apps, etc. iPhone users, on the other hand, have been forced to stare at the icons and colors that Apple chose for them with each iteration of iOS. That is, unless they’re jailbroken.
One of the most popular jailbreak apps/tweaks that’s been around for a long time is called Winterboard. It’s a theme enabling app that allows other developers to make their own themes for Winterboard and then it’ll apply it to the device’s home screen, settings, and other aspects of the user interface. It’s easy to use and has tons of themes available for it. For a while, people have been waiting for it to get updated to work with iOS 7, and, finally, that day has come.
Without further ado, here’s how to install Winterboard, custom themes for it, and how to use it to give your device a whole new look and feel.
I. Jailbreak your iPhone/iPad
To do this procedure you must be jailbroken. If you aren’t, you can head to our Jailbreak How To’s section and pick the jailbreak for your version of iOS (currently at the time of writing this is 7.0.4). Once done with that procedure and you have Cydia installed, head back here to continue.
*Don’t be scared, it’s easy to unjailbreak your device.
II. Install Winterboard
1. Open Cydia (if it isn’t still open from the section above).
2. Tap Search in the bottom right corner.
3. Type in Winterboard.
4. Tap on Winterboard when it shows up.
5. Tap Install in the top right corner.
6. Tap Restart.
III. Use Winterboard
1. Open Cydia.
2. Search Cydia (either by searching using the search tab on the bottom right, or by tapping the section tab and then Themes (Springboard/Winterboard) icon).
3. Once you find the Theme you want and it says it’s compatible with iOS 7, tap Install.
4. Tap Return to Cydia.
5. Open Winterboard.
6. Tap on Themes.
7. Select the theme you want to use.
8. Tap the home button and wait for it to respring the device
9. Repeat steps 1-8 to apply a different theme.
IV. Revert to the Original Apple Theme
1. Open Cydia.
2. Tap on Manage.
3. Tap on Packages.
4. Tap on Winterboard.
5. Tap Modify.
6. Tap Remove.
7. Tap Restart.
Hi, my friend and I jailbroke my friend’s iPad mini, and whenever we try to download WinterBoard from Cydia, it doesn’t work for some reason. We tried to download it for the Icon Masks tweak, and many others, but it just doesn’t seem to work. We follow every video step by step. Here’s a screenshot of the downloading process if that helps…
It says we have to “run a apt-get update to correct these problems”..
Go to Manage under Cydia and make sure everything is updated and that you’ve downloaded WinterBoard separately as well.
