Android 2.1 Update Coming To the Motorola Cliq

The Motorola Cliq will get Android’s 2.1 OS soon. There is no word on the exact date but T-Mobile employees are set to begin training on November 7th. T-Mobile employees are usually train within 2 weeks before phones and updates comes out so we might see it sooner than later.

The update will require 30MB of internal memory available as well as 100MB available on your SD card. The update will come to your phone by over the air.

There is a rumor going around that Motorola Cliq XT will get a update soon too but this update is only for the Cliq original.

  1. I’m already running 2.1 on my cliq. I like it but its pretty unstable. hopefully the update will patch all the stability issues I’m having. being able to run all the apps is sweet though. wish the cliq had a better processor lol.

  2. It’s infuriating that it has to take this long. Ever since the last update only six months after the phone was released on the market (which was when, March? April?) the Cliq has been rendered useless for several important applications from the marketplace (for instance, there is no way we can join the rather big Kindle for Android movement) and nobody is in any hurry to actual make this work for the customers. Meanwhile new phones have been released from Motorola as well as other brands, not even a year after the Cliq entered the market, which already feature Android 2.1 and 2.2. Thanks, T-mobile, way to treat your loyal customers who supported the first Android smart phone coming from Motorola. Not to mention the fact that it’s absolutely frustrating that we, as consumers, are powerless and at the mercy of t-mobile and Motorola, unless we want to risk losing our warranty and modding our phones. I can’t say it enough: it’s infuriating and shameless.

  3. Motorpla had to do what it takes to secure their name. They knew that if they update cliq and it turns out to be a mess then the customers will run away. So they had to do all those droids you saw. To appeal the majority. So if anything goes bad after cliq update. They have a loyalty to others. And they not gonna loose much if cliq owners ditch.

The problem that most people are having with Motorola is Motorola is putting out, out of date products and they wont update their products for a year. Then when you ask them to explain why they are not updating their products and putting out bad products they will tell you, “because everyone else is doing it.” Motorola is a great company in making interesting products and regular phones but they are still on a learning curve even after being in the android world for over a year now. Even people in T-Mobile, Verizon, ect,, is getting tired of them because to update something over the air everyone has to approve it. For example, if the cliq is to be update by OTA then T-Mobile, Google, and Motorola has to ok the update and 9 times out 10 it will be the phone manufacture that holds the update due to some new phone thats coming out or some unknown reason.

Personally I think Motorola needs to make some custom phones where you can make your own Android phone instead of swindling you to think your buying something then you really are..
