G2 Test Update Leaked

T-Mobile is testing a new software update for the G2 that adds the WIFI calling app and enables the missing mobile hotspot feature. The update was reported by a user on the xda-developer forums who said he received the new firmware by OTA and it was labeled as a test. Also included in the update is a new radio image which improves performance.

If your interested in testing out the new update keep an eye out on the official T-Mobile G@ forums because they routinely release new OTA to a limited number of users before widely distributing them. Unfortunately for G2 owners a rumor is going around the MyTouch HD will be the first T-Mobile Android phone to officially support the mobile hotspot feature.

The thing to keep in mind is most carriers charge about $30 per month for official wireless tethering plains but there is ways around that by rooting your phone or using special apps.  The real question is, do you think T-Mobile will charge the same as other carriers for tethering plains or will T-Mobile offer some more competitive options?

EDIT: Here’s an article from T-MoNews in regards to T-Mobile’s response to this update being leaked…
