How to Conserve Data Costs on an Android Device
Data plans are not cheap, and going over your data limit can add up pretty quickly. There are little tips and tricks, however, that can save data to avoid any penalty fees at the end of the month.
I. Recommendations
1. Put the data counter widget somewhere visible (like the homescreen) so that you have a visual of how much data you are using. Widgets can be accessed by holding your finger down on the screen.
2. Leave your WiFi toggle on. Furthermore, if you get a popup or notification saying WiFi is available check it out because a lot of places offer free WiFi.
3. A lot of basic phone functions use up data, so it’s important to make sure things like downloading apps or updates are done over WiFi.
II. Helpful Settings
1. In the Google Play Store you can turn on update over WiFi only to avoid unnecessarily sucking up data.
2. Data saver mode found under settings will stop certain processes from occurring unless you are on WiFi.
3. Turn off background data in general settings, you can also turn off data access anytime from your phone settings if you are really trying to curb your data use.
4. Log out of applications, such as social networking apps, that constantly pull data.
5. Avoid downloading large attachments from emails and text messages if that is an option.
