How to Enable Hey Siri in iOS 8
For a long time I’ve been a big fan of the iPhone and iOS. But I do have to admit every so often an Android feature comes along that makes me think. It happened when my friend bought a Moto X and could just say “OK Google” and have it respond. There was no holding of the home button, no tapping a headset button, his phone was just always listening to him. Motorola did this with the help of an additional co-processor that literally was always listening to you. Creep factor aside, this can be fairly useful. In iOS 8, we’re given similar functionality with the new command “Hey Siri”. The only caveat… your iOS device has to be plugged in for it to work. Most of us are assuming this is due to power consumption of constantly processing the sounds around you to see if you’re talking to your phone, or just you know just talking to yourself.
To enable Hey Siri:
1. Tap Settings.
2. Scroll down to and Tap on General.
3. Tap on Siri.
4. You’ll see a switch for Allow “Hey Siri”. Tap the switch so that it slides to On.
You can now begin your “Hey Siri” adventures. This is undoubtably extremely useful for situations where you need to be hands free but are still able to plug your iOS device in, i.e. driving or if your phone is on your night stand.
Comment below and tell us what the most outrageous (and still legal) thing you’ve asked Siri to do using “Hey Siri”.
