How to Rename Group Conversations in iOS 7 (Video)
I, for one, HATE group chats. They always seem to go off on tangents that I simply don’t need to be a part of or they simply end up becoming a drunken symphony of vibrations on my nightstand if I was the one who had to get up early the next day while everyone else stayed out and continued the drinking. Every now and then, however, they are good for some things. I know families that use them to keep their slightly overbearing parents at bay with short updates on their lives (instead of long, drawn out phone calls every night). Some people use it for keeping track of friends who are all at the same event, etc.
The issue with iOS 7 is that it doesn’t allow you to name these group chats and so some times things that would be appropriate to say to one of those groups might get accidentally sent to the other group.
To help avoid this, a jailbreak tweak developer created MessageRenamer7. This tweak allows you to easily rename group chats by holding down on them in the messaging app. Here’s how to use it.
I. Jailbreak your iPhone/iPad
1. To do this procedure you must be jailbroken. If you aren’t, you can head to our How to Jailbreak iOS 7.0.6 (the latest version at the time of writing this). Once done with that procedure and you have Cydia installed, head back here to continue.
II. Install MessageRenamer7
1. Open Cydia.
2. Tap Search in the bottom right corner.
3. Type in MessageRenamer7.
4. Tap on MessageRenamer7 when it shows up.
5. Tap Purchase at the top right and follow the prompts to login and purchase using your preferred method.
6. Tap Close when you’ve paid.
7. Tap Install where Purchase used to be.
8. Tap Restart.
III. Use MessageRenamer7
1. Open the messaging app.
2. Tap and hold on a group chat.
3. Type in the name you want and click OK.
