How to Make Chrome the Default Browser in iOS 7 (Video)
Sometimes, what Apple tells us to use on iPhones and iPads is not what we want to use. I’m referring directly to the fact that we can’t set Chrome as the default web browser on iOS 7, which forces us to open links in Safari. This is a problem if you don’t like Safari or use Chrome on other devices and like to sync your web browsing between them. Open In Chrome is a tweak that fixes just that, allowing us to open links in Chrome by default. It shuns Safari to that Apple folder where you put all the apps you never use, but can’t uninstall.
I. Jailbreak your iPhone/iPad
To do this procedure you must be jailbroken. If you aren’t, you can head to our Jailbreak How To’s section and pick the jailbreak for your version of iOS (currently at the time of writing this is 7.0.5). Once done with that procedure and you have Cydia installed, head back here to continue.
II. Install Open In Chrome
1. Open Cydia (if it isn’t still open from the section above).
2. Tap Search in the bottom right corner.
3. Type in Open In Chrome.
4. Tap on Open In Chrome when it shows up.
5. Tap Install in the top right corner.
6. Tap Confirm on the top right corner.
7. Tap Reboot Springboard, which will restart your phone.
III. Configure Open In Chrome
1. After restarting your phone, Open In Chrome will automatically be enabled. Disable it by opening Settings.
2. Scroll Down and tap Open In Chrome.
3. Tap the switcher to disable the tweak.
IV. Use Open In Chrome
1. Open a link from an app, such as Mail.
2. The link will automatically open in Chrome.
This didn’t work for me. I have Open in Chrome and have tried opening links with Open in Chrome both “enabled” and disabled in the settings, but they continue opening with Safari. What am I doing wrong…?
