RIM to Launch a New Blackberry Browser this Year

Apparently, RIM is working on a much needed new browser for their Blackberries. This make sense after plenty of surveys and analytical data saying that users around the world prefer the iPhone and Android’s browsers over the Blackberry one.

The new browser is said to be based off of Webkit (just like the iPhone’s Safari browser) and will be capable of handling AJAX, CSS, and HTML5 (no flash announced yet).

RIM also claims that their new browser will be much more network efficient, which seems like a wink at AT&T with all their network congestion being caused by the iPhone.

It’s a step in the right direction, but is it way too late? RIM says this browser will be ready by the end of 2010. With how much catch up they already have to play, new Android phones and firmwares coming out left and right, and an iPhone announcement happening before their new browser launches, will it be enough?
