Android 2.2 (Froyo) Source Code Available for Download

This doesn’t mean much to the end consumer (at least for now), but it is good news. So what does that mean? Well, it means that manufacturers can now download the source code from Google and get to work on Froyo releases for their devices. What else does it mean? That developers can now start messing with it to make some custom ROMs for all the poor neglected Android devices still stuck on say Android 1.5 etc.

Which do you think will come out first? Ya, us too.

So devs, come and get your Froyo! Then send us your new Froyo ROMs and we’ll pop them up on the site for everyone to enjoy!

  1. If truly happy with the phone and version you got. I wouldnt change til ota comes. Yeah it has tethering, and some new features and some nicer stuff but not really an upgrade. Its more of an improvement of the problems droid had. Freezing screens, lagging, not sending messages at times, taking really long time to send piks. Shutting off. So far as far as I can see, to early to tell, thats been improved drastically. Boosting the speed alittle fixed the lagging. In return on my phone seems to have help my battery which always seemed to be needing charged. Now if you need tethering and want to pay that xtra charge well yeah you get that. Face it its still not broadband on the pc or laptop wifi. Your not going to play farmville or watch netflix as of yet and to pull my remark from before back. My guy was standing in his yoville loaded but not going to be doing much. For the games that are out there. Wow, the new 3d enviroment is great, the adobe 10.1 rocks. I even get better signals and better video sending. Unless your wanting to learn to program and develope and design apps, widgets, web design, formats, custom roms. I would just leave it to the techys. There is nothing in the package pass the first 5 minutes you cant wait for. If there is more to come. It will be in the ota version. They are just letting these leaks and codes out to see what we will do with it. Thats great for everyone open source baby. SDK. Java. Frameworks. Moto. Google. AND ALL THE TECKYS. If you want to cont. and learn they will all hook you up. Great Androing. It is fun when you learn.

  2. P.s. Still the greatest phone in my eyes. Cant wait to get ahold of a Droid X on my next run with GingerBread loaded and see what it does. Hdmi output 720p screen it has ti be way up there interlaced. It will have to have some awesome drivers and direct x to run it. That big ole, screen made my eyes pop. Still after everyone keeps working hard on and off paper and we keep submitting fresh outside the box ideas. In about two years. I say after all the data is collected and processed. We will have a phone with built in 1080p screen, with hd mini projector for home viewing, with mini hdmi in and outs. Wifi, cell, broadband calling together either. With your choice of browser and os. Because the rest of the phone is going to be the smallest, fastest, most powerful, laptop/cellphones you ever seen. With accessories at home like plug up to touch screen monitors and keyboards fullsize for at progress and use and the mini projector as your tv. Maybe a small usb driven expansion ram, virtual memory pack for on the go plug to by pass your standard mem card for more power to stream movies, and play online social games. Right now with a usb a amp , some speakers, small lcd screen you can already have with windows media player as your movie/music player in your car at better sound and video for less than a average cd,player. But its awesome and you here your calls through your speakers and just talk without headset or phone in hand. Its a great world. With the possibility and never ending world of apps of Droid.
