T-Mobile Officially Now Has the Largest Network with 4G Speeds

So just a little interesting tidbit of info. T-Mobile today just announced (relatively quietly) that their new HSPA+ 21mbps network now covers more than 85 million people and that pushes them past Sprint’s current WiMax coverage. What does that mean? Well, that T-Mobile is now the largest network with 4G speeds.

Now, we say 4G speeds because HSPA+ is technically not a 4G technology like WiMax and LTE, but HSPA+ has already been proven faster than Sprint’s WiMax network and is backwards compatible to pretty much all of T-Mobile’s 3G devices so that counts for us 🙂

Take a look at the HSPA+ coverage map (then select See Cities with HSPA+) and see if your city is up and running soon.

    1. Technically not 4G but really really fast 3G. 4G requires a hardware update. but it is nice to be able to see faster speeds on our old phones. 🙂

  1. Nothing against this article specifically, but no matter how much Verizon and Sprint want them to be – the current incarnations of LTE and WiMax are NOT NOT NOT 4G. Not even close. No how, no way. Check it out. Even wikipedia gets it right in the first paragraph: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4G

  2. Even though it says Ft. Lauderdale / Miami isn’t online yet, I noticed a massive speed boost on my Nexus One on Monday. I was averaging about 800KB – 900KB download and 500KB – 600KB upload using the SpeedTest app previously, but now I’m getting between 2.5Mb – 3.5Mb download and 1Mb – 2Mb upload on average! That’s fantastic for a free upgrade! I’m running a stock Nexus One with Froyo FRF91.

  3. wow this is great! I was wondering how could I get 4g on my phone? Do I have to call the tmobile to get 4G?

    1. Seadoo233,

You have T-Mobile right? What phone? If it is a 3G Android phone then all you have to do is wait for them to upgrade your area and you will get a speed boost (its not technically 4G but it’s as fast as Sprint’s 4G network). You can check the coverage map to see when HSPA+ is live in your area: http://t-mobile-coverage.t-mobile.com/

  4. Coming soon in san diego wohoo.
Unlockr do you think the mytouch slide and orginal mytouch will get that HSPA+ speed?

  5. You know, it’s amazing about this new “4G” network and everything. but it would be nice if they actually made 3g nationwide first. for people like me who have never experience a 3G connection on my T-Mobile MyTouch slide. Why the hell are they just tryin to up the competition by creating a completely new network when I am still waiting for 3G to come my way.
