T-Mobile’s First HSPA+ Handset, the HTC G2

Apparently a few people who attended the T-Mobile regional meeting are talking to some sites. T-MoNews, AndroidandMe, and AndroidSpin are all reporting similar stories that they say they are getting from different individuals who attended the meeting (lending a bit more credibility to the stories). The HTC Vision/Blaze is going to be released on T-Mobile as the G2, as a successor to the original G1.

And just like a successor to the G1, it will be a “Google Experience” device and will run Android 2.2 without any custom UI. They report that the G2 is running a Snapdragon processor clocked to 800mhz but that it may be bumped up to 1ghz by launch. The reported launch date by the sites is “September”.

Got to say, I’m a little confused as to why T-Mobile would launch a MyTouch Slide with a qwerty keyboard made by HTC and then another almost identical phone right after sans HTC Sense being the only difference. But weirder things have happened.

What do you guys think? MyTouch Slide owners going to be mad if this thing is identical to yours plus adding HSPA+, a newer OS, and maybe a front facing VGA camera? I’d be pissed…

  1. Its about time tmobile step the game up. I went from a g1 to a slide and like it a lot but tmobile gave me mine for free so naw I won’t be pissed I hope the come with the slide hd… the same time kinda want that its a bigger power house

  2. Yea I will be very pissed off, I’m still paying my touch slide off and they gonna come out with a new one…that’s just wrong.

    1. Honestly, technology is always getting better. If any cell phone carrier just kept waiting until the next best phone, there would hardly be any phone releases. T-Mobile was due for a handset with HTC Sense and they finally got one. Verizon released the Droid 2 after the Droid X and Sprint released the Samsung Epic after the HTC Evo.

  3. Thank God!! I’ve been waiting for the g2 for a long time. Hoping for a 1ghz snapdragon but I’m anxiously waiting for more info.

  4. I emailed HTC a few months back requesting that they revamp the G1 because it was done with the MyTouch and simply because it is the grandfather of all android phones. Even had links to sites of many different people who wouldn’t upgrade due to the fact that most phones weren’t close to what the G1 is like. Gave suggestion of what it should look like and the hardware. Can forward emails. Guess they finally decided it was time.

  5. been waiting for this since the gsm hero, lol. in fact i was just looking at my beat up G1 legacy and thinking, “you know, they should totally make a 2nd one, bc the form factor is still unmatched (aside from the slow processor and bulkiness. only two issues i have: 1) no upgrade, so i would have to buy retail, and 2) it doesnt have the 5 row like the original. in fact the qwerty looks identical to the mytouch S to me. other than that, i may have to grip this phone!

  6. Wow… Took TMobile 9 months to stick a short keyboard on a Nexus One… What a learning curb they must have… Now I am stuck with them for two years thinking they would try to gain the lead on Android devices… But nope…

In Nov. they will release an HTC Evo aka MyTouch HD.. 6 Months after Sprint did… And it seems they moved the dual core HTC Android device aka emerald till late Dec. or 2011 which means will probably not see it till mid 2011…. Months after Verizon & Sprint has there’s out… or when Verizon is hitting the 2Ghz level…lol

  7. HAHA IM SO GLAD I NEVER UPGRADED I kept my orginal g1 all you mytouch people sorry to say but have fun with the slide unless you want to drop 500 dollars
