MWC 2011: HTC adds a tablet to its Android arsenal – the Flyer

It was only a matter of time before HTC jumped on to the tablet wagon and what better time to do it than the Mobile World Congress, right?  Enter Flyer, the first ever HTC tablet that is sure to go places once it’s released. The Flyer, among other things, features:

  • 1.5GHz processor
  • 3G and WiFi support
  • 7-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024×600 pixels
  • 32GB of internal memory
  • Dimensions: 195.4 x 122 x 13.2 mm with a weight of 415g.
  • 5 megapixel rear camera with a 1.3-megapixel forward-facing camera for video calling and the like
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread Operating System
  • Autosync of notes with Evernote (no OneNote support)
  • DLNA with HD streaming via OnLive app

What sets the device apart from the competition is a pressure-sensitive stylus for handwriting recognition and digital signatures that will be shipped alongside the tablet. While the current device features both 3G and WiFi support, the company is looking into releasing a WiFi-only version when it reaches a “more accessible price point.” The original tablet will feature Android 2.3 but HTC promises an OTA update of the made-for-tablet Android 3.0 operating system, so everything seems taken care of.

As is the case with the other HTC Android phones announced, the Flyer will also start selling in the second quarter of 2011 at an unknown price.
