Android 3.2 update ready for Motorola Xoom, more tablets to follow soon

It’s no Ice Cream Sandwich – you can taste that towards the end of this year – but it is an important update nonetheless.  While the Ice Cream Sandwich aims at unifying all Android devices under the sun to a common OS version, eradicating the word ‘fragmentation’ that has been shoved in Google’s face time and again, this Honeycomb 3.2 update can be seen as a harbinger of sorts, aiming to unify all tablets, be it your 7-inchers or the bigger 10-inch devices.

The update has now started rolling out for the Motorola Xoom, with more tablets to follow suit soon (the 7-inch Huawei MediaPad released today already has it out of the box).  There are some improvements noticeable in this latest updates, and although they aren’t as significant as what the Ice Cream Sandwich is expected to bring, they are still substantial:

  • Improved SD card support
  • Support for 7-inch displays
  • Ability to zoom in with apps now having the option to utilize the entire screen
  • Improved hardware acceleration

There are many more features that we haven’t listed here but Xoom users are welcome to point them out to us below if they have already received the update.
