HTC Thunderbolt to get Android 2.3.4 – this time for real

When we last told you about this update, we are pretty sure many of you must have been left scratching your head wondering where heck it was and if the update had ever left the HTC/Verizon servers.  It did actually, only to be pulled back after some serious flaws were discovered in the update.  Fast forward to almost a month later, the carrier/manufacturer seems to have gotten those glaring holes closed up, as they are now in the process of getting the update out in a few more days.

But it’s been a long wait, we know, so for those who are fed up, they can get the update unofficially, as the same build (number 2.11.605.5) was leaked a couple of days back. Here’s what you need to get it running:

  • After downloading the zip file, rename it to “PG05IMG.zip” Note: If you’re doing this from a Windows machine, make sure you don’t rename the file “PG05IMG.zip.zip,” as Windows hides known file extensions by default.
  • Drop the file on the root of the SD Card
  • Turn off your device
  • Hold Volume Down + Power to reboot into the bootloader — the file should automatically be detected and the flashing process will begin.
  • Wait for your device to complete the process and reboot
