Android App of the Day: Mr. Number

Do you have bill collectors, telemarketers, or spammers blowing up your phone day and night? Do you wish there was a way to block certain numbers from reaching you? Maybe you are just looking for a way to get more control of your calls, texts, and phone contacts? Sounds like you need a call blocker app. I used to have a lot of spammers calling my number and I thought changing my number was the only solution to get rid of all of those annoying phone calls. I was so relieved to discover the Mr. Number app, and it’s turned into an invaluable tool that I can’t go without. Mr. Number for Android is a great application for anyone who needs a reliable call blocker/manager service, as the app allows you the ability to call and text the people you want and block the numbers you need too.

Pros:

  • One app to manage all your calls, texts, and phone contacts
  • Block one number or block as many numbers as you need
  • Always know who is trying to reach you with crowdsourced Caller ID*
  • Let people know when you’re free and when you’re sending all calls to voicemail
  • See who you talk to most often, who you need to call back, and who you’re neglecting
  • Complete dialer and texting app with integrated blocking, caller ID, and availability
  • Quick reply to texts without opening the app
  • View all your messages in one place or swipe to see calls, texts, MMS, and blocked messages
  • View all contacts with phone numbers, your top 25, and everyone you know on Mr. Number
  • Automatic reverse lookup for every number that is not in your contacts, outbound and inbound
  • Report spam calls, SMS, and MMS to warn other users
  • Create your own Caller ID and text message signature
Cons:
  • Wish more of my contacts were using Mr.Number so I could use it more often as my primary text messaging platform

How it works:

Upon opening Mr. Number, the app displays how you appear in other people’s caller ID, the option to use Mr. Number as your default messaging app, and an option to share your contacts with Mr. Number. Android and BlackBerry users pay $1.99/month for crowd-sourced caller ID and reverse lookup. However, the fee is waived for anyone who agrees to share their contact list with Mr. Number; that’s where the ID data comes from. From there the app then takes you to your home page. The home page displays who your number one contact is, calls you never returned, contacts you are neglecting, and your call and text activity for the month. You are then presented with a “blocklist”, which you can have contacts either sent to voicemail or have Mr. Number pick up the call and then hang up. What’s great about Mr. Number is the amount of options provided when choosing how you want to block. Options include: suspected spam, all private/blocked numbers, choose from recent calls or texts, manually enter a number, choose from contacts, all numbers not in your contacts, all numbers beginning with…, all numbers in your contacts, or just all numbers.  Once you’ve created your custom rules you always have the option to remove a rule at anytime, should your preferences change in the future. To view your blocklist history simply tap on the home button (Mr. Number icon) and swipe.

Conclusion: Mr. Number is a fantastic app for anyone out there who is suffering from unwanted calls or texts. Instead of having to go through the hassle of changing your number this app gives you the relief of really controlling who can reach you and how your calls are managed. Overall the app is extremely easy to use and I love how many options you are provided to really customize Mr. Number to your individual needs.
