How to Root and Install ClockworkMod Recovery on LG Optimus 2X P990

Got a LG Optimus 2X P990 smartphone and want to root it so you can install custom recovery to load custom ROMs? No problem, here’s how you can do it.

I. Before You Begin:

1. Your phone’s warranty will be voided once you root it. It can be gained back by either installing stock firmware or unrooting your phone.

2. If you have installed the Car Home and the F-Secure app, then uninstall them because they could interrupt the rooting process. Learn how you can uninstall apps on your Android phone.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Download LG Smartphone Drivers from here.

2. Download the SuperOneClick Tool from here. (It’s attached there in the first post, download the latest one)

3. Download Unofficial ClockworkMod recovery from here.

III. Installing LG Smartphone Drivers:

1. Extract files from the LG Drivers archive and place them on your Desktop.

2. Double-click on “.exe” file to begin installing drivers.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish installing drivers.

IV. Rooting LG Optimus 2X P990:

1. Extract files from the SuperOneClick Tool archive and put them onto your Desktop.

2. Enable USB debugging on your phone from Menu>>Settings>>Applications>>Development>>USB debugging.

3. Connect your phone to your PC using the USB cable.

4. Launch the SuperOneClick tool by double clicking SuperOneClick.exe file.

5. Choose psneuter from the Exploit dropdown menu. Here’s the screenshot of the tool.

6. Hit the Root button to start rooting your phone.

After the tool has successfully rooted your phone, you will see a confirmation message on your screen. Now, move on to the following procedure to install ClockworkMod recovery.on your phone.

V. Installing ClockworkMod Recovery on LG Optimus 2X P990:

1. Extract files from the Unofficial ClockworkMod reocovery archive onto your Desktop.

2. a) If you are using a Windows based PC, just double-click the install-clockworkmod-windows.bat file to install custom recovery on your phone.

b) If you are using a Mac PC, open a Terminal Windows where you have put the extracted files, i.e. Desktop and type in the following commands:

chmod +x install-clockworkmod-mac.sh

./install-clockworkmod-mac.sh

c) If you are using a Linux based PC, then open a Terminal Window on the Desktop and type in the following commands:

chmod +x install-clockworkmod-linux.sh

./install-clockworkmod-linux.sh

3. It will start installing ClockworkMod recovery on your phone and within a few seconds, you will have custom recovery installed on your phone.

Congratulations ! You have successfully rooted your phone and installed ClockworkMod recovery on it. Now, it’s time to load some custom ROMs on your phone, you can do it from here.
