How to Root the WiFi-only Galaxy Tab 10.1

This will actually be the second step in the whole rooting process for the WiFi-only Galaxy Tab 10.1 and if you haven’t yet gotten to installing ClockworkMod Recovery on your tablet, do that first and come back here.  If you have ClockworkMod Recovery though, continue reading to gain root access on the Galaxy Tab 10.1.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  Your device should have ClockworkMod Recovery installed already.  Read our post on how to do this before proceeding here.

2.  Back up all the data you feel needs backing up.  If you want do a Nandroid backup, that’s fine too and can be done via the ClockworkMod Recovery.

II.  Necessary Files

Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip file.

III.  Rooting the WiFi-only Galaxy Tab 10.1

1.  Connect your device to your Windows PC in MTP Mode.

2.  Copy the Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip file (do not extract it!) to the topmost folder of your SD card.

3.  Unplug your device and enter ClockworkMod Recovery Mode.  To enter ClockworkMod Recovery:

i.  Power down the device.
ii.  Press Volume Down + Power simultaneously with the device powered off until you see the Samsung logo.  Once you see the logo, let go of the Power button and only hold down the Volume Down button until you get the screen where you can choose either Download Mode or Recovery Mode.  Use the Volume Down button to highlight the Android Install icon (not the big Android logo) and select it by pressing the Volume Up button.
iii.  You should now enter ClockworkMod Recovery.

4.  Make a Nandroid backup.  To do this, select ‘backup and restore‘ and then select ‘backup‘.  This will save your stock, unrooted image in case you want to go back to the unrooted original version of Android.

5.  Select ‘Install zip from SD card‘.

6.  Navigate using the Volume Up and Down buttons to find the Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip file you copied to your SD and then press power to select it.

7.  On the next screen, select ‘Yes – Install Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip‘ by pressing the power button with the option highlighted.

8.  Once the zip file is applied, select ‘Go Back‘ and then ‘reboot system now‘.

Your Galaxy Tab 10.1 should now be rooted!! Check for the Superuser app in the app drawer to confirm or use the Root Checker app from Play.

As with the ClockworkMod Recovery, this root solution was also created by s0ckm0nk3y over at AC Syndicate.  A thank you post or even a donation would surely spur him on to keep working!!
