How to Root and Install ClockworkMod Recovery on the Huawei IDEOS X3 Blaze (U8510)

This guide will show you how to root the Huawei Blaze, a low-end Android smartphone, and also install ClockworkMod Recovery, which should enable backups via Nandroid, flash a custom ROM and much more that the ClockworkMod Recovery usually offers.  Read on to know how.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  There have been problems reported while running the tool used in this guide on Windows XP, so make sure you have a Windows 7-based PC.

2.  Make sure you have the necessary drivers installed before you begin.  If you are unsure about this, check the next section to download and install the proper drivers.

3.  This solution works only on a Blaze running Gingerbread (Android 2.3.x).

II.  Necessary Downloads

1.  Automatic Root Enabler.

2.  U8510 USB Drivers.

III.  Rooting the Huawei Blaze

1.  Enable USB Debugging on your device.  To do this,  go to Settings > Application > Development and then check the USB Debugging tickbox.

2.  Connect your device to the PC using a microUSB cable.  Windows should install the drivers at this stage if it hasn’t done so already.

3.  Double-click on Automatic-Root-Enabler–U8510–v1.1.exe you downloaded above.  The tool should now automatically begin rooting and flashing CWM Recovery to your device.

When the Automatic Root Enabler tool displays a message saying, “Root permissions enabled.  Enjoy!“, your device will be rooted and have ClockworkMod Recovery installed!!

All thanks go to lowskill on the Android-Hilfe forums for making it so easy!!  Be sure to thank him (in German if you know the language!) or donate if you can!!

  1. Hi I have been trying this. The Automatic Root Enabler says _Booting Device into fastboot mode- and then after that says” installing clockwork recovery Waiting for Device”. The phone then just shows an Icon saying Huawei and 7 minutes later it is still doing the same thing. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks

  2. Thanks For Help It’s Perfect working. it working on firstly phone off and connect u.s.b. and run
    Automatic-Root-Enabler–U8510–v1.1.exe

      1. that most probably means you haven’t enabled USB Debugging, Eddy! or the drivers aren’t installed. Try those things and check again!

  3. I have enabled USB debugging and the drivers are installed but it say only waiting for device and the smartphone gets blocked with the only logo screen, anyone can help me ,please? thanks

    1. No it isn’t advisable unless you definitely know what your doing or it’s just an old phone you don’t use much

  5. Ive installed drivers and its stuck at the comman prompt ‘waiting for device’ what do i do now? Kinda worried it might kill my phone. :/ But it should go well seeing as how i followed all instructions

  6. For those with waiting for device error… Combination of Windows 8 and Microsoft USB 3.0 drivers. Best to find a PC with either windows 7 or USB 2.0 ONLY.

  7. I use superoneclick to root my huawei x3 android but it stops at the third checkup and a pop up dialogue box appeared which says ‘Automatic version check failed. Is your OS 2.0 or higher?’ with the Yes, No, and Cancel button. And when i clicked on the Yes button, it stays there for the rest of its damn life. I use windows 8. What the heck is happening ? Please help.
