Android App of the Day: iExit Interstate Exit Guide

Have you ever set off on a road trip and wondered where you could find a hot cup of your favorite Starbucks, unleaded gasoline, or some juicyĀ McDonald’s? Or maybe you needed to find somewhere to rest like a hotel, rest stop, or campground. While road-trip driving can often have you in the zone, you could easily pass the correct exit and miss out on what you need the most at the moment. Luckily the iExit app for Android has you covered by displaying real-time what is coming up next on whatever interstate you happen to be driving on. If you are a frequent road traveler, iExit offers valuableĀ visibilityĀ to what lies ahead.

Pros:

  • Search for unleaded, diesel, and biofuel
  • Search for fast food locations
  • Search for sit down food establishments
  • Find coffee or ice cream
  • Find chain or independent hotel locations
  • Find auto services
  • Locate truck driver services
  • Find shopping centers
  • Find campgrounds

Cons:

  • Can drain some device’s Ā battery life
  • FavoritesĀ featureĀ is unstable

How it works:

iExit relies heavily on your device’s built-in GPS and the free travel data that is available on AllStays.com. I’ve taken iExit with me on several road trips and have found the data to be mostly accurate with just a few out of date entries.

Every entry in the app includes the businessā€™s distance in miles from your current location, its distance from the off-ramp, a map, and a contact phone number. Oddly enough, you will not see a physical address of the locations just a map with directions.

The app’s directory of major restaurants and hotel chains allows you to “star” them to add to your favorite list. Once an entry has been added to yourĀ favoritesĀ that brand will be prioritized over other entries along your route. Of course, Starbucks made it to my favorites list so I am never without my coffee fix on the road.

The app’s response time was quick, which is sometimes necessary with fast approaching exits. The user interface is simple and clean without distractions, making it stress free to use while navigating to your nextĀ destination. As expected with most GPS apps, I did find the app to be a drain on my battery so I only use it when I’m charged up or have a chargerĀ nearby.

Conclusion:

iExit is a valuable tool to have on the road whether you travel on a consistent basis or want to be prepared for your next family vacation. The app’s easy to use interface makes locating points of interest quick and pain-free. There’s nothing worse than driving without direction desperately trying to find a sit downĀ restaurantĀ or hotel when you need it the most. Save yourself the stress and before you decide to travel make sure you have iExit as one of your road apps.
