iOS App of the Day: Snapguide

Have you ever wanted to try something so new it seemed scary to even think about attempting it? If you’re anything like me it’s things like learning how to pan sear scallops, make mint cookie truffles from scratch, or learn how to dye my hair Ombre style without looking like a drowned rat. In the past I would normally turn to Google for a how-to guide, but now thanks to the Snapguide app for iOS, I can find innovative how-to guides that you won’t see anywhere else. There’s something to be said about finding out that other people have successfully conquered the same exact feats you are tip-toeing around. With Snapguide you can find ideas, how-to’s, and tips on pretty much everything. I haven’t discovered any other app that has actually made me a little braver like Snapguide has, which makes it worth trying out and telling all your friends.

Pros:

  • App can freeze during media upload
  • Publishing process can take a long time

How it works:

  • Download the app
  • Go through tutorial
  • Sign in either with Facebook or Twitter
  • If you don’t have Facebook or Twitter create an account to log in with your email address
  • To create a guide tap on the “Create” icon
  • Title the guide
  • To create a step, tap on “Add + Step”
  • Tap on either photos, video, or text to create a step
  • You can either take photos or videos directly from the app or choose media from your device’s gallery
  • Take as many photos or videos as you want and when you are ready to add captions tap done
  • Choose your favorite cover guide by selecting a topic
  • To publish guide, tap on “Publish” guide and wait for publishing process to finish
  • Share guide on Facebook, Twitter, email, or copy URL

Snapguide users have really formed a tight community dedicated to sharing and feedback. I’ve used this app to learn how to tie a bow-tie, make my own jewelry, and learn how to write in calligraphy.
