If you’re looking for a way to stay connected with your loved ones, then finding a reliable video chat app can make all the difference. While there are plenty of video chat platforms available how do you know which one to actually download? Well, that’s where we come in handy by doing all the testing for you and reporting back with only the app’s that are truly worth your time. Thankfully, the Tango app for iOS made it an extremely easy recommendation with its unique feature set and quality video calling abilities. After spending some time with the app the only question left to ask is who want’s to Tango?

Pros:

  • Free group messaging

  • Send & receive FREE video messages
  • Group video messaging! Share with multiple people at once
  • Send video messages to friends who don’t have Tango
  • View your sent messages & forward to others
  • Personalize your video calls with animations that help you express yourself, entertain your kids, or celebrate any occasion
  • Multiple animations to choose from
  • Works with most smartphones, tablets, & PCs

  • App automatically alerts you when your contacts
  • No login & password – create an account in less than five seconds

Cons:

  • Awkward on the iPhone 3GS (no front facing camera)
  • Small audio lag
  • App keeps prompting you to upgrade
  • Video quality can get grainy depending on the device

How it works:

  • Download the app
  • Register your mobile number
  • Tango will automatically find other Tango users from your contact list
  • To connect with someone simply tap on the name of the contact
  • Make free video or voice calls
  • Tap the magic wand icon to use the Tango Surprises feature
  • To send a video message simply tap on the video message button, tap on red record button to record message and then tap send

Conclusion:

The Tango interface for iOS, which works for both the iPhone and iPad, works as smoothly and simple as Google Video Chat. The app features three main sections including: contacts, invite, and settings. I love that you do not need to set up an account to Tango, and within seconds of downloading the app you’re off and running. Sadly, only ten of my 200 contacts were already using Tango, so I have had to coerce some of my friends to start using the service. Tango offers fun animation packs to spice up your video chats and the ability to leave video messages to anyone (even if they’re not using the service). Overall, the video quality was quick and of good quality. I did experience a slight audio lag when leaving video messages, but nothing of severe consequence that would deter me away from the app. Bottom line if you’re looking for a free video chat app that will allow you the ability to connect with anyone cross-platform, the Tango Video Call app is a smart choice.
