How to root and install ClockworkMod Recovery on the Samsung Galaxy S3 SGH-T999V (Canadian version)

We already have a slew of rooting procedures for the Samsung Galaxy S3 (goes to show how popular the device is!) but this one is specifically for the Canadian version of the popular device.  Read on to know how to know more.

I.  Before You Begin

1.  This works only for the Canadian version of the SGH-T999V; back off now if this isn’t the device you have and look up our Samsung How-To section to find the relevant procedure.

2.  Make sure you have the necessary drivers installed; if not, download and install the relevant drivers from the next section before you begin.

3.  As always, back up important data just in case before you begin.

4.  Make sure that your device is 75% or more charged before you plug it in for the procedure.

II.  Necessary Downloads

1.  t-mobile_t999_gsiii_samsung_usb_driver_v1_4_6_0.exe (install these drivers before you proceed).

2.  Odin3-v3.04.zip (tool needed to flash CWM) [Links available in the first post of the original thread].

3.  clockworkmod.TAR (ClockworkMod Recovery) [Links available in the first post of the original thread].

4.  CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip [Links available in the first post of the original thread].

III.  Installing ClockworkMod Recovery

1.  Reboot your device to Download Mode.  To do this, press and hold the Volume Down, Home and Power buttons until you see the “Warning!” screen.  Now, press the Volume Up key to enter Download Mode.

2.  Connect your device to your Windows PC.

3.  Extract Odin3-v3.04.zip to a folder on your desktop.

4.  From the extracted folder, double-click on Odin3 v3.04.exe to run the Odin tool.

5.  Click on the PDA button, locate and select the clockworkmod.TAR file you downloaded above.

6.  Make sure that only ‘Auto Reboot’ and ‘F. Reset Time’ are selected under the Option section.

7.  Make sure that your Odin screen looks like below and then click Start.

Your device should have CWM installed after it reboots!

IV.  Rooting the SGH-T999V

1.  Connect your device and copy CWM-SuperSU-v0.87.zip that you downloaded above to the root of your SD card via MTP mode.

2.  Boot your device into ClockworkMod Recovery.  To do this, with the device powered down, press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons and let them go as you see the screen turn on.

3.  Select Install zip (use the Volume Up and Down keys to navigate and the Home button to select).

4.  Locate the CWM-SuperSu-v0.87.zip you copied to your SD card above and press the Home button to select it.

5.  Once the file is flashed, select Reboot Now to restart your device.

And you should have a rooted Galaxy S3 to play with in your hands!
