How to Flash a Custom Recovery on the Galaxy Nexus (Verizon)

TWRP Recovery just got update to version 2.2. The new version brings a bunch of new features, including an on-screen keyboard, you can now name new backups and rename existing ones, pseudo-terminal emulator and so on. This is a major update for this recovery and if you are eager to try it out on your Verizon Galaxy Nexus, then jump to the guide below.

I. Before You Begin:

1. The following procedure works on Verizon Galaxy Nexus only.

2. You must have unlocked bootloader of your Galaxy Nexus. You can do so from here.

3. You must have rooted your smartphone before doing this procedure. Please head to our how to root Galaxy Nexus procedure first, finish it, then return to this procedure and continue.

II. Downloading Required Files:

1. Download the TWRP Recovery Image from here.

2. Download the Fastboot Package from here.

III. Installing TWRP Recovery 2.2 on Verizon Galaxy Nexus:

1. Download and place both the files on your Desktop.

2. Extract files from the Fastboot Package to your Desktop.

3. Turn OFF your Galaxy Nexus smartphone.

4. Reboot your phone into the Fastboot mode. To do so, press and hold Volume UP+Volume DOWN+Power buttons together.

5. While your phone is in Fastboot mode, connect it to your PC using the USB cable.

6. Open a Command Prompt Window on your Desktop and type in the following commands:

fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.2.0-toro.img

7. After the recovery is installed, issue the following command to reboot your phone:

fastboot reboot

8. Your phone will reboot.

Congrats ! The TWRP Recovery 2.2 has now successfully been installed on your Verizon Galaxy Nexus. You can now perform various tasks using the recovery, like you can backup your ROM, flash files, etc.
